Overview
The

Career Consultant is engaged in working with students and industry to meet the workforce needs of both. Reporting to the

Director and Manager of the Workforce Team, you will be connecting with students early in their program, we shepherd them to attain employment success. This means coaching, mentoring, and guiding learners on the path to meaningful employment.


Responsibilities- Coach and guide students to equip them with the skills and information required to conduct themselves professionally within a practicum course Arrange practicum course placements (program required unpaid work experiences), processing time sheets/evaluations, and providing support for both the student and host site during a placement- Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with a wide range of prospective employers and work placement hosts in public and private sectors, recruiting agencies, and job centres- Researches and recommends appropriate agencies/organizations that would meet the educational requirements for Robertson College students- Plans, coordinates, and represents Robertson College at graduate fairs, conferences, and other recruitment events- Deliver 100% practicum placement rate and strive to produce training-related employment rates as expected by the College- Provide career advice and resources to students and recent graduates, including assisting students in identifying strengths and barriers to employment; developing job readiness, job search, and career management skills- Plan resume collection from graduates and/or in-person events for employers to meet our students- Maintain students' career resource centre, as well as assist students in using social media and other tips and techniques to access relevant career information- Research program-related sectors and industry employment trends on an ongoing basis; incorporate job search strategies that align with current trends in the industry.- Maintain student records related to career goals and academic advising, alumni records related to current employment- Provide regular statistical reports of day-to-day activities and outcomes.- Perform other departmental duties as required (such as reporting, student/grad employment initiatives, etc.)


Qualifications- 1-2 years of experience within a business and/or post-secondary education setting. A general or specific understanding of careers within healthcare, business, and technology is an asset- Knowledge of LinkedIn is an asset- A genuine positive interest in being a mentor/guide and advocate for our students to graduate from their college programs, as well as for grads to find employment success in their field of study with Robertson College- Entry-level experience in job readiness coaching (recruitment/hiring process, job search, interview preparation, resume/cover letters) and an eager willingness to develop these skills through team training opportunities and how Robertson College provides these services to students/grads- Passion and ability to promote Robertson graduates to practicum and employer partners- Knowledgeable about the Manitoba labour market/Canadian labour market, recruiting practices, industry trends, and best practices in career services- Strong relationship-building and customer service skills- An understanding of the needs of a diverse student population and how to interact effectively with a multicultural student body- Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and coordinate tasks to meet results in a fast-paced environment- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications, and Salesforce is an asset
