Working closely with our experts, senior engineers and designers on heavy industrial projects in the mining and power sectors including studies, the Intermediate Mechanical Engineer will act as a technical resource on challenging projects.     • Prepare engineering documents for the design of works for projects in the following sectors: industrial, mining and metals, energy, oil and gas, environment and sustainable development
    • Lead and participate in conceptual design studies
    • Lead and participate in the preparation of plans and specifications and perform detailed engineering based on guidelines for mandates involving heavy machinery, conveyors, pump systems, crushers and metallurgical processes
    • Supervise or carry out design calculations and ensure that plans meet guidelines as well as legal and regulatory requirements
    • Verify and produce specifications, reports, files for tenders, and other technical documents
      Present technical information, concepts or study results
    • Coordinate design activities with other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, etc.)
    • Assign and review the work of junior engineers (engineers-in-training), technicians and drafters assigned to projects and assess technical scope
    • Ensure that work complies with budgets, schedules, estimates and established procedures
    • Provide assistance to more experienced personnel for the technical aspects of complex tasks
    • Cultivate and maintain friendly, close relations with colleagues and clients or their representatives
    • Assist in the preparation of proposals, estimates, schedules and budgets, where required
    • Carry out other technical duties to assist with the completion of projects
    • Perform technical information surveys when necessary
    • On occasion, monitor contractors on site

    Overview of certifications and job requirements

    • University degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Member of the PEO
    • Minimum 7 years of experience, upper limit is 12 years of experience
    • Experience in mining and/or heavy industrial will be a STRONG asset
    • Equipment sizing (fans, pumps, ducting, piping, crushers, screens)
    • Experience in conceptual (FEL1) studies all the way to detailed engineering
    • Experience or high potential as a lead is a must - mechanical lead, discipline lead, project engineer, project lead
    • Excellent knowledge of MS Office suite and other applications, databases and interfaces
    • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks and SmartPlant applications
    • Available to travel occasionally between the Toronto and Sudbury's offices
    • Asset : Construction support / site experience
    • Asset : HVAC, fire protection
    • Asset: Bilingual (English/French - spoken and written, English/Spanish - spoken and written)
