Located at the head of Lake Ontario and within the municipalities of Burlington and Hamilton, Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is the largest botanical garden in Canada and one of the nation's earliest nature sanctuaries.

Comprising some 2700 acres of protected wetlands, botanical collections, parkland and display gardens, and within easy access of millions of nature-starved urban citizens, RBG dedicates its expertise in horticulture, conservation, science and education to connect people, plants and place for the purpose of nurturing and preserving healthy growing life on our planet.

  • We are seeking Servers to support our Food and Beverage team by providing highquality service that will help us maintain and attract customers. This is a parttime, casual position reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager.

Responsibilities:


  • Expert knowledge of the menu, beverage list and daily specials with the ability to provide suggestions for food or drink choices to patrons thereby ensuring a positive culinary experience.
  • Take food and drink orders from customers, accurately enter them into the POS, serve orders and process payment.
  • Engage customers in a professional, friendly and positive and professional manner.
  • Prepare tables, serving stations, or buffet tables for service. Reset tables and workspaces throughout the shift.
  • Sweep, mop floors and clear garbage, recycling and compost so dining areas are pleasing to the eye and exceed food safety requirements.
  • Assist with the organization of inventory and ensure that sufficient product is available to serve.

Requirements:


  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment and respond to a variety of service related situations with mínimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interactions with patrons, coworkers and managers.
  • Proven knowledge of catering and restaurant best practices as well as food and beverage health and safety requirements. Demonstrated ability to provide patrons with products and services beyond their expectations.
  • Expertise in food and wine pairings in fine dining establishments.
  • Ability to use pointofsale and reservation systems.
  • Receptive to feedback and the ability to utilize information provided to resolve potential issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Valid Smart Serve Certification
  • Previous work experience involving customer service in a fastpaced environment.

W orking Conditions**:


  • Position is required to work both indoors and outdoors. Ambient room temperatures and lighting as found in a typical Food & Beverage environment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts as required to support operational needs.
  • Ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
