Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Dental Materials Reprocessing Clerk (DMRC) is responsible for the assembly of various dental kits and the cleaning and disinfection of carts, containers and dental materials and equipment used in all dental clinics in the School of Dentistry.
The DMRC is responsible for receiving supplies in the Material Management Reprocessing Centre, ensuring these products are appropriately labeled and stored according to the ADA&C and provincial and federal hazardous material regulations. The Dental Materials reprocessing Clerk monitors expiry dates and rotates perishable supplies to ensure inventory is optimized.
Knowledge of infection control protocol, dental products, supply management and the material requirements for various dental clinics an asset. The Dental Materials reprocessing Clerk must be able to apply established supply policies while meeting the demands of each specific clinical area.
All carts (materials, equipment, supplies) received from the dental clinics will have to be processed (cleaned, disinfected, etc) by the end of the day to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the clinic operations.
Assigned shifts may be between 8:00am to 7:00pm Monday to Friday
The DMRC may be assigned to assist in the Central Sterilization department, Dispensary, Simulation Lab or to other areas when operationally required.
This is a recurring position and there are inactive periods that will be based in accordance with the School's operational requirements for the Fall, Winter and Spring terms start and end periods. The approximate inactive time periods may be between 5-6 weeks and can include: late April – late August, a week in November, mid December – early January and a week in February.

Disinfecting, Sterilization and Replenishing/Inventory Control of Dental Material Kits and Equipment
- Supports the sterilization unit with inspecting and packaging of items, as assigned by the Medical Device Reprocessing Supervisor and the Dental Materials Supervisor during peak volume times and may provide coverage for absences
- Accurately distribute the items to each department and or student making sure that the appropriate areas receive the supplies needed
- Monitors expendable and nonexpendable inventory daily to ensure adequate inventory for all dental kits and orders accordingly
- Prepares supplies, materials, instrumentation and assembles and properly stores these as per School of Dentistry and materials/instrumentation guidelines all dental kits for the Oral Health Clinic and programs
- Ensures that all sundry carts are appropriately stocked
- Receives and transports metro carts between all clinical units and Central Sterilization and Material Management centre (MMC) and dispensaries as required
- Provides assistance in various clinical areas; Dispensary, Sterilization, Simulation Lab as required
- Works with the Materials Management Supervisor to maintain proper inventory control systems/databases for equipment and ordering of supplies for Oral Health Clinic and programs
- Handles material and equipment requests at the front counter as required
- Report problems regarding availability of instruments and or materials for operational requirements
- Utilizes Axium, for sterilizing and outer barcoding, instrumentation and cassettes
- Store and rotate sterilized items as per defined protocol
Infection Prevention Control
- Processes non-critical items delivered in dirty metro carts
- Disinfects all non-critical containers, materials and equipment that have been used by all dental clinics following IPC protocols
- Follows Standard Precautions and maintains the appropriate schedule for delivery and retrieval of the metro carts in coordination with clinical operations
- Follows the Standard Operating Procedures for the cleaning, inspecting, packaging, and sterilization of dental instrumentation
- Prepares required dental and disinfecting solutions daily following Standard Precautions
- Follows WHIMIS and Biohazard Waste Management protocol to ensure quality control of items processed
- Maintains current skills/training in WHIMIS, Infection Control, Biohazard Waste Management and Quality Assurance
- Disinfects metro carts as per IPC protocol
- Provides assistance with cart washing in Central Sterilization as required
- Performs basic hand washing prior to working with dental materials and wears appropriate personal protective equipment
- Utilizes universal precautions, rules and regulations of proper infection control
- Promotes proper aseptic technique, proper cleaning and maintenance of all equipment
Student Services
- Participates in student/guest orientation and/or demonstration as needed
Equipment Maintenance
- Ensures equipment is operating and maintained as per manufacturer's instructions in coordination with the Dental Equipment Technicians
- Reports equipment damage or malfunctions to the Equipment Technicians and promotes staff reporting equipment repairs in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with lost and damaged instrumentation protocols Monitor incoming instruments and other equipment for damage and wear
Other duties as required.
- Demonstrates skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Fluent in speaking, reading, comprehending and writing English
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to push pull and lift up to 50 pounds
- Well-developed planning and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines, multi-task and manage competing priorities work well under pressure
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and perform tasks accurately with attention to detail
- Ability to interact and collaborate effectively within a dynamic team-based environment
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
Preferred Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Current WHIMIS training
- Knowledge of dental procedures, materials and equipment an asset
- Knowledge and/or understanding of Infection Control Protocols
- Inventory/supply management experience – experience with inventory management software; AxiUm dental software familiarity an asset – ability to track inventory and create reports
- Computer proficiency in MS office applications and/or Google mail and Google Suite an asset
