Onquest Canada provides design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction supervision for furnace and process plant projects in both greenfield and revamp situations.

Onquest has performed successful furnace designs and supplied world-class Direct Fired Heaters, Burner Management Systems, Waste Heat Recovery Units, and associated equipment to premier refiners and petrochemical companies worldwide.


SUMMARY


The Operations Manager will be responsible for effectively guiding the development and direction of the company division to maximize growth of revenue, profitability, and promote high quality client satisfaction, while building relationships and ensuring the integration of strategic plans with company operations.

JOB DUTIES

  • Continuous involvement in business development efforts, meeting prospective clients, and assessing potential work
  • Work with prospective subcontractors to establish a relationship prior to bidding and execution
  • Continuous involvement in bid process including review meetings:
  • Review construction execution strategies and plans
  • Review clarifications and exclusions to minimize risk when executing
  • Write execution plans when required
  • Review key production and performance factors, project schedule, subcontracting strategies, and supply responsibilities
  • Provide feedback to estimating on key indicators with bid to actual comparison
  • Question plans for project parameters to get confidence that issues and concerns have been considered (staffing, labour market, accommodation, shift rotation travel, attrition, environmental issues, zoning, etc.)
  • Provide direction in setting up jobs inclusive to:
  • Reviewing contract documents to make sure tender conditions are included (price, exclusions), ensure understanding in departmental requirements for quality, controls, and safety
  • Generate a control budget from the final estimate, passing to accounting for setup
  • Hire/build an execution team
  • Assist the project managers as necessary in preliminary mobilization
  • Ensure companywide involvement and awareness of upcoming project requirements (hold project and facility kickoff meetings)
  • Generate benchmarks and targets for project managers
  • Provide ongoing support to active projects:
  • Show corporate presence to both project team and clients by travelling to project sites when needed
  • Liaise with the client to ensure satisfaction with the Company's Management Team
  • Meet with key project personnel to assess job status (safety, quality, productivity)
  • Ensure project controls and reporting are satisfactory to assess performance on a corporate level
  • Ensure Company resources (labour, materials, equipment, facilities, etc.) are used in the most efficient/cost effective way
  • Make recommendations for project operations
  • Assess project staff performance and contribution and identify training needs
  • Generate cost coding reports and instructions
  • Work with estimating to implement a consistent method of turning an estimate into a control budget
  • Create and maintain initiatives to ensure new project managers receive guidance and mentoring and learn company procedures and functions
  • Collaborate with others within the Management Team to develop improvement initiatives within the organization
  • Oversee the ISO Quality Management System for continuous improvement of processes and procedures to ensure the quality of products and services meet the company requirements
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working with direct fired heaters and similar managerial experience
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of direct fired API 560 heaters and industrial construction, including project management, safety, and quality
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fired heater safety shutdown systems
  • Experience with Refractory linings and installation according to API 93
  • Strong fabrication and construction background and the ability to problem solve during these project stages
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of the materials and services that are used for the fired heaters and input technical expertise during bid evaluations
  • Thorough understanding of technical issues related to products and services including but not limited to Instrument and control systems
  • Effective problem solving and decision skills to enhance the performance of the company, relying heavily on judgement and experience to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to evaluate company operating procedures and continually enhance these for efficiency
  • Ability to review sales estimates and identify missed scope
  • Demonstrated leadership at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to support the sales team for facetoface technical clarification meetings with the international clients
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (English)
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and planning software
