Position Overview:


The Payroll Specialist is a key member of the Calian Payroll team and is accountable for delivering the processing of pay, leaves, and other entitlements for all Calian employees on a bi-weekly basis.

You will establish and foster positive relationships with management, staff, and external stakeholders.

You thrive in a self-directed environment, demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, and can be entrusted with highly confidential and sensitive information.


Responsibilities:


  • Process multijurisdictional salary and hourly payroll in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with company and government policies, terms and regulations using SAP for all Calian business and subsidiaries
  • Review biweekly payroll posting to general ledger for accuracy
  • Preparation and filling of required reports and/or payments to government agencies and other organizations (source deductions, health benefits, WSIB/WCB and ROEs etc.)
  • Assist in reconciling payroll liability accounts on a monthly basis or act as a backup
  • Generate additional journal entries as required at month end
  • Provide routine and adhoc payroll reports
  • Identify and respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies as required
  • Prepare special payroll runs as needed
  • Assist with updates to the payroll system including modifications, table changes, new wage types, absence and attendance codes
  • Identify and leverage process improvement and automation opportunities
  • Adhere to policies and liaise with auditors during annual audits
  • Ensure that Calian's payroll practices are compliant with all relevant CRA and Provincial government regulations

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education is an asset
  • Payroll Compliance Professional Practitioner (PCP), or working towards is required
  • 3 to 5 years' experience as a Payroll Specialist, managing a large automated payroll system to calculate net pay
  • Demonstrated experience processing payroll in SAP is considered an asset
  • CPA designation is considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of all Canadian legislation affecting payroll and employment
