We are looking to hire an Assistant Project Controls Manager to support our program management team in Toronto, Ontario.


What You'll Do


This is a unique opportunity for a team member to work on a strategic management project for a client with one of the largest real estate portfolios in the world.

While working on this project you will learn how a real estate department is run from the top as you will be exposed to processes and people from all over the organization.

This will be a consulting role where you will be working closely with a team lead to provide strategic deliverables to executive level clients.

This position assists the team lead in all coordination, supervision and internal/external communications and will be groomed to run projects independently in the future.


  • Responsible for assisting the team on MGAC's construction projects. This position assists the team in all coordination, supervision and internal/external communications and will be mentored to run projects independently in the future.
  • As a critical element to the team, this position calls for continual evaluation of team effectiveness to the Client, time management and output; the completion of projects and tasks in a timely and costeffective manner while serving both the business goals of MGAC and the Client's requirements.
  • Assist in the creation of project schedules. Monitor and communicate progress to the Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager.
  • Alert the Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager to conditions that could lead to significant delays in the completion of work or when the construction schedule falls behind.
  • Provide documentation and written record as to the progress, issues, solutions, inspections, change orders, construction changes, meetings, drawings, products and other items that reflect the progress or lack thereof.
  • Advocate on the part of the Owner and works with the Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager during disputes, disagreements, modifications or change orders.
  • Attend meetings as the Owner's Representative with the project team as needed.
  • Track and submit invoices, purchase orders, and other financial commitments, exposures and obligations.
  • Perform other duties and take on other responsibilities as required for the successful completion of the project.
  • Keep Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager informed on progress and stages of the projects, providing briefing sessions at major completion stages.
  • Support the capital project estimate review, budget management and spend process.
  • Provide inputs and data updates for proper management of cash flow and accruals.
  • Control costs with your knowledge of conceptual estimating, funding stage gates, basic contingency principals, procurement principals.
  • Assist in the change management process and workflow, ensuring purchase orders and change orders are issued for all contracts according to current policy, providing a platform for adding/ tracking/ monitoring/ approving change.
  • Support the risk management process, including being responsible for qualitative and quantitative assessments to support cost predictability.
  • Manage invoicing to align original budget and track contingency approvals, allowance reconciliation, budget transfers and change orders in the relevant systems to keep current budget and cost forecasts up to date.
  • Produce Time Impact Analysis reports for Project Managers.
  • Work with Team in office or Project Site.

What You Bring to The Table

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • At least 25 years of building real estate, construction, wastewater, or consulting experience required.
  • At lease 2+ years project controls management in all phases of the project lifecycle, specifically contract management, cost management, scheduling, risk and reporting, with vertical and linear construction projects.
  • Preferred certifications include PMP and/or PMI-SP.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, presentation, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of the construction sequencing processes for vertical and linear construction.
