    Communications & Engagement Advisor 24014R Regular Full-Time North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) provides recreation, sport, arts, and cultural programming and events on behalf of the City and District of North Vancouver.     ABOUT THE POSITION

    Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Marketing, the Communication & Engagement Advisor supports the development and implementation of corporate communications, public and media relations, issues management and community engagement activities for the organization.The Communications & Engagement Advisor is a generalist with skills in communications, planning, writing, editing, event management, and community engagement. They will create high-quality communications and community engagement assets that align with NVRC's vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development and delivery of strategic communications plans and activities to build, maintain, and enhance awareness and understanding of NVRC's programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Coordinate editorial planning across internal and external communications platforms.
  • Write and edit a broad range of internal and external communications materials.
  • Provide guidance and advice to staff on a variety of communications matters.
  • Support engagement and consultation using a variety of best practice engagement techniques such as forums, workshops, open houses, and online consultation.
  • Coordinate, attend, and participate in public information, community, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Support the summary of input received through engagement mechanisms, analyze feedback, develop consultation summary reports, and manage the dissemination of key findings and reports.
  • Support reputational and operational crisis/issues management.
  • Support communications during emergency/critical incident events.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of communications, engagement, and public relations principles, objectives, practices, and techniques.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; produce clear, concise, and compelling content using journalistic and plain-language writing.
  • Strong customer service orientation; ability to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with a variety of internal clients and external contacts.
  • Knowledge of and experience with web publishing platforms, preferably Drupal.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive issues with skill, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and of cultural safety principles and practices as they relate to the work.
  • Self-motivated, able to work on several projects simultaneously and respond to competing priorities.
  • QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or diploma in a related discipline (such as journalism, public relations, or communications) plus a minimum of five years' experience in a professional communications or community engagement role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Membership in the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) or International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the contents and intention of the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) public participation spectrum is an asset.
  • Experience in a local government or public institution setting is an asset.
  • A valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and access to a vehicle for business use.
  • All candidates are required to submit a police information check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment. All NVRC employees are expected to be able to work from any NVRC location. The pay for this unionized position starts at $40.74 and ranges to $48.09 per hour (2024 rates).
