Lumenus Community Services is hiring an energetic 2SLGBTQ+ Transitional Age Youth Wellness Peer Assist Worker to join our team, who will support the co-creation and delivery of a holistic, peer-based, psychoeducational wellness project addressing the holistic health and wellness needs of at-risk 2SLGBTQ+ youth, ages 16-25, in the Toronto area.
Reporting to the Manager of Community-Based Mental Health, this position will work closely with the Youth Wellness Mentor, Peer Facilitator and the reachOUT Program to support the collaborative development and facilitation of holistic wellness programming and the delivery of individual assist services for 2SLGBTQ+ transitional-aged youth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the Peer Facilitator and Peer Facilitator to develop, promote and cofacilitate holistic wellness workshops for 2SLGBTQ+ youth, ages 1625, within Lumenus Community Services and the City of Toronto
- Provide individualized, solutionfocused services for youth and program participants, focusing on increasing youth knowledge of, access to, and use of community resources, programs and services
- Support the coordination, registration, implementation and followup of psychoeducational holistic wellness workshops for 2SLGBTQ+ transitionalaged youth
- Conduct ongoing evaluation of the project in collaboration with Wellness Workshop Facilitators and youth participants
- Support budget management and the completion of reporting requirements
- Liaise and collaborate with project and community stakeholders
- Utilize social media creatively and effectively to enhance project visibility and registration access
- Actively implement antiracist and antioppressive approaches to establish and maintain inclusive, affirming and nonjudgmental spaces
- Consistently model inclusive language / behaviour and respond to racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist and otherwise oppressive language / behaviour proactively
- Provide informal confidential support and referral to appropriate services to meet required needs in the context of project facilitation
QUALIFICATIONS/skills/knowledge:
- Direct experience working with 2SLGBTQ+ youth in the areas of health and wellness
- Expertise and thorough knowledge of holistic, antioppressive wellness practices relevant to 2SLGBTQ+ transitionalaged youth communities in the Toronto area.
- At least 2 years of experience providing individual, onetoone supports and services for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and transitionalaged youth.
- At least 1 years of project development and workshop facilitation experience with 2SLGBTQ+ youth, as well as youth who have intersecting identities, from an antiRacist and antiOppressive stance
- Ability to communicate about health and holistic wellness in ways that support the enhancement and development of communitybased knowledge and practices.
- Ability to consult and collaborate with a wide range of professionals working with youth
- Excellent collaborative leadership skills and an enthusiastic commitment to building solutionfocused strategies
- Exceptional skills in communication, coordination, computer literacy and administration
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process
- Flexibility and ability to work variable hours that might including evenings, weekends, weekdays depending on training, consultation, peer activities, and workshop scheduling
- Must be able to participate in team meetings, supervision, and training sessions as required
- Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with wider staff teams and abide by Lumenus policies
