  • Job SummaryWithin the Governance and Corporate Planning division, the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) is responsible for regulating and monitoring private training institutions in British Columbia. Private training institutions in BC enroll over 48,000 students annually and offer a wide range of programs. This diverse sector is comprised of multiple stakeholders (i.e. private business, professional associations, government officials), often with competing interests. The PTIB works with other regulating bodies both provincially and federally, to ensure ongoing student protection and quality education standards. Private institutions are expected to achieve set standards to become certified (i.e. registered or designated). Institutions that achieve designated status; may be eligible to access funds through the Government (provincial/federal) student financial aid programs; and meet federal requirements to enroll international students.


The Compliance Inspector conducts compliance inspections of private training institutions, gathers and analyzes information, compiles detailed reports of the findings, communicates those findings to certified institutions and makes recommendations to senior staff.

This position has an important role in monitoring and identifying compliance with the Private Training Act (PTA), and inspects on behalf of StudentAidBC (SABC) and the Education Quality Assurance (EQA) programs with the intent to protect the student financial assistance programs' integrity, and protect consumers and taxpayers in accordance with SABC policy and the pan-Canadian Designation Policy Framework and legislation.


Job Requirements:


  • Postsecondary degree or diploma and a minimum of two years of recent case management experience as well as a twoyear combination of recent, related experience in two or more of the following:
  • Experience reviewing documentation for compliance with legislation, policies and/or standards.
  • Experience weighing and analyzing evidence and documenting conclusions.
  • Experience conducting interviews, fact finding, and determining appropriate action.
  • Experience working with external clients, customers or stakeholders
Preference may be given to applicants with two or more of the following:

  • Experience working in a regulatory environment.
  • Experience conducting on site inspections
  • Administrative experience in a Canadian government organization (federal, provincial, or municipal)
  • Experience in the post secondary sector in instructional design, teaching or administration

Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver's license or equivalent and have access to a personal vehicle for travel during business hours.

Overnight, out-of-town travel within BC required, sometimes with short notice.
