West Park Healthcare Centre helps patients get their lives back by providing specialized rehabilitative and complex care after a life‐altering illness or injury such as lung disease, amputation, stroke, and traumatic musculoskeletal injuries.


West Park is building a new hospital and transforming its 27-acre site into an integrated campus of care, enabling the hospital to evolve its rehabilitative programs to meet Ontario's future healthcare needs.


Qualifications:


  • Physiotherapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy Assistant certificate from an accredited college program
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of rehabilitation principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of aids to daily living
  • Demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to safely porter, lift and transfer patients
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain effectiveness in varying situations and with different tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, the transdisciplinary team, patients and families
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Availability to work a flexible work schedule (days, evenings and weekends as required)
  • Previous experience in a health care setting
  • Evidence of satisfactory attendance record
  • An employee's disciplinary record will be reviewed as part of the assessment of qualifications
  • Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the centre's core values and helps patients _get their life back_
  • Should be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors

Accountabilities:


  • Under the supervision and direction of a clinical professional:_
  • Assist patients with practicing activities of daily living.
  • Assist with ambulation, routine group or individual exercise programs.
  • Construct, adapt and provide equipment and materials for patient treatment programs, e.g. aids and adaptive clothing.
  • Train patients in the use of various equipment e.g. computers, language materials, wheelchairs.
  • Establish good rapport and trusting relationships with patients and families.
  • Assist to transport, lift and transfer patients when needed.
  • Prepare materials for patient assessment and treatment.
  • Monitor, prepare and maintain equipment, treatment area and supplies.
  • Participate in educating and training patients and caregivers in the use of devices.
  • Prepare documentation, collect data and record as required.
  • Participate in conferences/meetings as required.
  • Cleaning of equipment in treatment area.
  • Function as a team member to support patients to achieve their goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in educating and training students.
