    POSITION SUMMARY

    :
    The Coordinator, Health and Safety develops, organizes and delivers health and safety related training to TVDSB staff. The incumbent ensures compliance and due diligence under legislation by maintaining accurate training records, and creates and assists with related projects and safety initiatives. The incumbent supports TVDSB's health and safety program by completing administrative tasks (e.g. taking minutes, updating SharePoint), participating with the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines while supporting their implementation, as required, and providing supports to many elements of the health and safety program.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Research and develop content related to health and safety training, policies, procedures and programs
  • Deliver health and safety presentations and training
  • Liaise with Graphic Services and Information Technology Services to develop health and safety program materials and to obtain required technology and software application development
  • Research and provide information, data and recommendations regarding health and safety related issues
  • Attend and support Joint Health and Safety Committees
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders for the development of policies, procedures, training programs, and initiatives
  • Support the technology infrastructure that is utilized by Health and Safety for program implementation
  • Liaise with external partners for the development and implementation of health and safety training programs
  • Correspond with internal partners to ensure compliance with training requirements
  • WORK PERFORMED
  • Research, develop content and deliver health and safety training online and in class. For example: First Aid training, Working at Heights training and monthly Health and Safety Spotlights
  • Develop web-based presentations and training,
  • Liaise with Learning Support Services staff to develop and facilitate subject-specific safety-training programs
  • Liaise with Graphic Services and Information Technology Services to develop health and safety program materials and obtain required technology and software application development
  • Develop and maintain training documentation and record reporting structures to ensure compliance with Ministry of Labour and other regulatory bodies
  • Research and provide information, data and recommendations regarding health and safety related issues
  • Develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the feasibility and impact of programs, procedures and new initiatives
  • Assist safety team with the completion, development and implementation of projects and initiatives
  • Collaborate with and provide information to stakeholders, including Joint Health and Safety committees, regarding training programs, policies and procedures
  • Manage Health and Safety training calendar for TVDSB ensuring training and operational needs are met
  • Demonstrate current knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of health and safety legislation, approaches and trends
  • QUALITIES/SKILLS/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
  • Sound Knowledge of the Occupational health and Safety Act
  • Familiarity with Ministry of Education Policy/Program Memorandums (PPMs) is preferred
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to research and identify reliable sources of information
  • Well-organized with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Outlook 365, MS Office Suite, etc. Learning Management System maintenance experience is preferred
  • Learning Management System maintenance experience is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with eBase is preferred
  • The successful candidates must have a valid driver's license and access reliable transportation as travel to schools in TVDSB is a requirement for this role
  • EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
  • Completion of a three (3) year post-secondary program in Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • One (1) year related work experience is required
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Training Part 1 and Part 2 is preferred
  • Train-the Trainer certification is preferred
  • Working at Heights Train-the-Trainer certification is preferred
  • Standard First Aid & CPR Train-the-Trainer certification is preferred
  • This position requires frequent use of the employee's personal vehicle for travel to Board sites. All applicable travel is reimbursed according to Board policy and procedures using the Board's posted mileage rate.
    First consideration will be given to permanent members of The Association of Administrative, Professional and Support Personnel (AAPSP).
