HORTICULTURAL TECHNICIAN:
The Capital Stewardship Branch is looking for a Horticultural Technician for an indeterminate position. The position is classified as an RÉ-03 ($50,375 to $63,754 per annum).

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Supervisor, Horticultural Services, the Horticultural Technician provides a broad range of operational services for the maintenance and life cycle management and rehabilitation of the greenhouse showrooms and production rooms, landscapes, and formal gardens.
The individual also provides operational support services for ceremonial events and is responsible to assist in civil operations.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field or High school diploma with an acceptable combination of specific, short-term, or practical training related to the position through apprenticeship programs, colleges, or red seal certifications.
CERTIFICATES / LICENCES:
- Valid driver's licence (Quebec residents will be required to pass Class 3 for heavy vehicles).
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience with:
- Greenhouse work;
- Horticultural best practices for tree care, Integrated Pest Management Program (IPM), different garden design styles, tropical plants, floral design as well as related maintenance requirements;
- Specialized equipment and techniques (handheld tools, tractors, mowers, aerators, sprayers, etc.).
KNOWLEDGE
- Of diverse techniques in floral design, horticulture, vegetable gardens and environmental practices;
- Of workrelated safety standards and work procedures and practices;
- Of natural plant health care techniques, including monitoring disease and pest control;
- Of specific pruning and maintenance requirements of various types of roses, shrubs, trees, hedges, vines and tropical plants.
ABILITIES
- To ensure quality control by following policies, guidelines, procedures and practices.
- To work alone or in teams with mínimal supervision and provide guidance to students and interns;
- To operate small to medium motorized horticultural machinery including string and hedge trimmers and leaf blowers;
- To communicate effectively and to respond to general inquiries.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance;
- Linguistic profile: English Essential or French Essential;
- To work from Thursday to Monday;

- Pesticide applicator's licence;
- Chainsaw safety training and certification;
- Tractor / excavating / chipper training and certification;
- Forklift operator training and certification;
- Valid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certificate.
