***Brazeau County is looking for an enthusiastic and responsible individual to join our
Utilities team for the summer months. This position offers four months of employment from May to August, with a great work-life balance of evenings and most weekends off, including paid statutory holidays. Our summer staff work forty hours per week, receive job and safety training, and are provided with personal protective equipment.


If you enjoy working outside and find it satisfying to complete maintenance work, this may be a great fit for you.

Our Utilities staff work in a team environment and sometimes independently with mínimal supervision. You are comfortable learning and operating light equipment, have time management skills, and possess a valid driver's license.


Primary duties include assisting with maintenance at water, sewer, and solid waste transfer station sites, locating valves, manholes, and residential shut-off valves, and some administrative work when required.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Painting
  • Handexposing valves, manholes, and residential shutoff valves
  • Testing, servicing, and replacing valves, manholes, and related parts as required.
  • Grounds maintenance and grass trimming.
  • Hydrant flushing and servicing.
  • Spreadsheet creation and data entry as required.
  • Maintenance at transfer station sites
  • Attendant shacks, bin structure, and general site maintenance
  • Assisting in hauling freoncontaining appliances to the storage site for future freon removal
  • Assist in reorganizing metal and appliance bins as required.
  • Assist in removing/repairing fences and gates as required.
  • Identify and report all necessary repairs, malfunctions, or maintenance problems to the supervisor.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
  • May be required for a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.

COMPETENCY AREAS:


Education/Training:


  • Currently pursuing postsecondary education is considered an asset.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications/Designation:


  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Clean Driver's Abstract
  • Water and Wastewater Certification would be an asset, but not required.

Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:


  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to perform physical labour.
  • Must be able to work with others and independently and with mínimal supervision.
  • Experience operating light equipment including a skid steer, gaspowered weed trimmer, and chain saw is an asset.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with many different individuals professionally.
  • Ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills are an asset.
  • Computer software experience using Office 365 is required.
  • Knowledge/experience in water distribution and wastewater collection are an asset.
  • Overtime and weekend work will be required when necessary.

Classification Compensation and Classification**:


  • Temporary Union (Maximum Five Months Duration)
  • Work Period from May to August
  • Forty Hours Per Week; Monday to Friday (schedule may depend on weather)
  • Union Grid 1 $ $26.04 per hour
  • Nonsupervisory
