Financial Controller

Aqua Spa & Pool Supply Ltd.

is a leading wholesale distributor of pool, spa, and leisure products serving Western Canada from its head office in Aldergrove BC and branch location in Calgary AB.

We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our team at our Aldergrove BC head office. This is a full-time permanent position. This position would be suitable for an individual with a recognized accounting designation. Aqua is a dynamic logistics environment where our Financial Controller is the senior finance professional in a growing company.


As Financial Controller you will work closely with the senior management of the company, report to the Chief Operating Officer and be responsible for the timely preparation of all financial statements, payroll administration, benefit plan, company insurance, monthly invoicing, banking, presenting at quarterly meetings, assisting with strategy, and other financial responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounts Receivable account payments, monitoring customer credit limits, sending payment reminders, and collections if necessary
  • Reconcile daily credit card transactions
  • Prepare and process cash and cheque deposits
  • Accounts Payable working with the Purchaser to verify purchase order pricing, matching invoices to packing slips, recording all invoices, and paying invoices according to terms
  • Process weekly vendor payments in both Canadian and US currencies
  • Manage foreign exchange risk
  • Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Prepare and file monthly GST and PST remittances
  • Maintain financial accounting system for cash management, AP, and AR
  • Manage biweekly payroll and maintain employee records
  • Managing company benefits with employees and provider
  • Work with staff to ensure financial information is properly captured in accounting system
  • Assist the Purchaser in journal transactions relating to inventory cycle counts/adjustments
  • Allocate expenses between the BC and AB branches
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Work with auditors to complete annual audit of financial statements
  • Work closely with senior management in development of budgets, forecasts and models
  • Work with senior management to prepare financial projections
  • Maintain required external contact with bankers, accountants, lawyers and auditors
  • Manage risk of the company through managing insurance policies
  • Prepare annual corporate tax returns

Qualifications:

  • A university degree majoring in Finance or Accounting, CPA designation is required.
  • Experience in Financial Reporting, Audit, Cash Management
  • Minimum five (5) years accounting experience in a senior position
  • Experience in Financial Planning and Analysis function
  • A track record of contributing to business growth through the finance function
  • Have a strong understanding of payroll rules from CRA
  • Must understand GST and Canadian taxes
  • Strong communication, presentation and written skills
  • Strong analytical skills demonstrated through a track record of driving business growth
  • Team player with a track record of demonstrating a high standard of professionalism when interacting with fellow team members, management, and customers
  • Comfortable with technology platforms, financial software, and ERP systems

Salary:
$64,000.00-$74,000.00 per year
