Role:

Do you enjoy winter outdoor work? Are you interested in supporting the trail snowmaking program, which provides exceptional Nordic ski experiences to visitors and athletes within Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park?


The Canmore Nordic Centre (CNC) is home to world class winter events and the Kananaskis Region of the Alberta Parks is looking to fill several seasonal snow-maker positions for the winter season that runs from approximately November 6, 2023, to mid or end of January 2024, pending snowmaking and operational needs.


Snowmaking staff are instrumental in rolling out the seasonal snow program and contribute to a positive visitor experience by maintaining both performance and recreational Nordic ski trails and facilities, while respectfully interacting with park visitors in Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park.


Snowmaker duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Safe operation and maintenance of snowmaking fan guns and air/water guns, pumps, compressors, valves, hoses and tools
  • Operating sidebysides, snow machines, ATV's, trucks, and mobile machinery
  • Assisting with trail packing, grooming and track setting
  • Interacting with the public in a professional manner and maintaining visitor experience
  • Working independently with limited supervision
  • Using good judgment and having the ability to work independently as well as part of a team

To also be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Ensure there is adherence to all pertinent policies, procedures, and protocols, including Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Government of Alberta guidelines,
  • Have a mechanical aptitude and equipment operating experience including the ability to troubleshoot equipment and the ability to work outdoors in the winter for long periods of time
  • Have the ability to support and work with other team members within the Kananaskis Region and at Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park
  • If needed, lead and participate in emergency and evacuation protocols to provide support to visitors and staff in an emergency situation

Qualifications:


Education:


  • Some high school education

Assets:


  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate
  • Experience with snowmaking operations, operating snowmobiles, ATV's, tractors or agricultural equipment
  • Good mechanical and troubleshooting skills to identify mechanical or operational issues
  • Welldeveloped oral and written English skills to effectively communicate with others
  • Familiarity with Nordic skiing (Classic, Biathlon, Skate)
  • Familiarity with Kananaskis Region and surrounding area

Salary:

Based on a 40 hour work week, $ $ 23.86 per hour - Salary is currently under review.

Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.

  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
In addition to the 11.

2%, weekend and shift premiums are also paid as follows:


  • Evening Shift Differential $2.75 per hour
  • Night Shift Differential $5.00 per hour
  • Weekend Premium $3.25 per hour (including holidays)
