The City of Port Coquitlam has an excellent opportunity available to work on our Engineering and Public Works team as a GIS Technician.

This is specialized work related to the City's Mapping and Geographic Information System.

An incumbent of this class performs a wide range of duties relative to the assembly of graphic and non-graphic data, the production of maps, reports, and related information, and the development and implementation of GIS procedures and standards.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Researches, compiles, enters and edits spatial data and geographic and associated non-graphic data from legal source maps, ortho-photographs, engineering design and record drawings and related documentation into a computer database
Produces computer assisted base, legal and utility servicing maps and presentation materials using the Geographic Information System and related software
Maintains production data sets; identifies the need for new data sets and related data tables; converts dissimilar data formats into new data sets and updates related data tables; creates derivative data sets and defines logical relationships with existing databases
Prepares and/or revises drawings and maps for a variety of engineering projects using various software packages and tools
Participates in integrating various databases and information files into GIS format; updates and reconciles data, amends data dictionaries
Completion of a diploma program related to geographic information systems, digital mapping, and/or geomatics engineering technology at an Institute of Technology
Minimum of one (1) year recent, related experience
Considerable knowledge of programming methods and principles as related to the work performed
Working knowledge of coordinate geometry and survey computations as related to the work performed
Skill in the use of equipment and software required to perform the duties of the position
Sound knowledge of rules, regulations, bylaws, policies and legislation governing municipal activities
Sound communication skills
Ability to provide customer service to a variety of internal and external customers
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts
Valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of BC
