It is an exciting time to be part of Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE) as we realize Ambition a five year strategic plan to renew programs and services and become the trusted voice for Mental Health and Addictions.

As a key member of a multi-disciplinary team this Addictions Counselor III position will primarily support patients in our Adult Forensic Services programs that provide recovery - orientated rehabilitative model of care to adults experiencing addiction and/or mental health concerns that are dealing with multiple barriers on their wellness journey.

In this position, you will be a part of a developing centralized site based Allied Health professional workforce.

In the role you will provide assessment, individual or group counselling and consultation to individuals, their families or supports that are referred to the program.

Essential to the skill set of this position will be an understanding of how behavior is manifested as a result of concurrent emotional / behavioral challenges, mental illness, addiction, developmental disability and/or other environmental factors.

The Addiction Counselor III will play a key role in enhancing concurrent capable best practice within the teams, providing a holistic perspective of individuals' health, wellbeing and culturally diverse backgrounds.

You will be engaged in site and zone professional practice counsels for support, research and developmental opportunities.


Description:


As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services.

You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families.

You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed.

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions.

A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.


Additional Required Qualifications:

2-3 years' experience working within an addiction and mental health inpatient rehab program and/or community based service. If education is Social Work degree or diploma, current/valid Registration with Alberta College of Social Work is required. Undergraduate degree or 2 year Social Work diploma. An equivalent combination of education and experience. BLS/CPR required.


Preferred Qualifications:


Knowledge and experience of addiction and mental health resources within the Edmonton Zone and provincially to support transitions in care for young adults returning to their communities.

Connect Care knowledge. Nonviolent crisis intervention.
