Renfrew Hydro Inc.

is located approximately 40 minutes West of Ottawa along Highway 417 and serves approximately 4,400 customers within the Town of Renfrew.

Position Summary


Reporting to the Manager of Operations, our Power Line Technicians (PLT) are responsible for the day-to-day construction, operation, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system which services customers within the Town of Renfrew.

The PLT will be required to perform 24 hour on call duties on a rotational basis, work both emergency and planned overtime and reside within thirty (30) minutes of Renfrew Hydro's office building.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all line construction and maintenance work in connection with underground and overhead power distribution systems in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Be familiar with and use all safe working practices as set out by Renfrew Hydro Inc.
  • Be able to operate bucket trucks, radial boom derricks, hydraulic equipment and all other equipment and tools used in line construction and
  • Perform industry standard troubleshooting, service, operating and testing work on Renfrew Hydro's power distribution network up to and including 44 kV.
  • Perform tree trimming and vegetation management duties as required.
  • Participate in Job planning and tailboard conferences.
  • Complete inspections of newly installed and modified distribution plant in accordance with Reg 22/04 and construction verification program, including completing record of inspection forms.
  • Assist in the development of skills for apprentice lines personnel, and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies

  • Certification as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician 434A
  • Excellent knowledge of the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power lines.
  • An energetic, motivated individual with a good work ethic and strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be in good health and physically fit for yearround outdoor powerline work, in all elements.
  • Effective communication skills to successfully interact with customers and peers.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to the team approach of project management.
  • Ability to use sound judgment, is flexible and responsible.
  • Must be able to demonstrate focus and attention to detail.
  • Computer skills an asset.

Qualifications
-
Education:Must possess a Grade 12 Graduation Diploma and an Ontario Power Line Certificate of Qualification with Red Seal certification (or equivalent).

Experience:Minimum of 4 years of experience in the lines trade.

Other:Must possess and maintain a valid Class DZ Driver's License, an acceptable driver's abstract, and Utility Work protection Certificate.
