Scope


Responsibilities:

The Business Operations and Reporting Lead reports to the Manager of Economic Development and is responsible for the following:
Business Operations
Supports the Economic Development Division with the management and execution of priority projects:
Supports the development of the Economic Development Division's annual workplan and ensures key deliverables are achieved;
Supports the Economic Development team with organizing project timelines to ensure deadlines are met and on budget;
Prepares presentation and other written documentation to articulate issues related to economic development;
Works collaboratively to identify opportunities to improve divisional processes;
Participates in the planning and development of strategic programs/projects that support the execution of the City's economic strategy;
Liaises on behalf of the division on various inter-departmental teams in the planning, implementation, and management of various economic development initiatives; and

Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.

Investment Promotion
Provides creative and process input into effective way to tell Surrey's investment story to prospective domestic and international investors through our Invest Surrey channels;
Project manages strategic investment promotion efforts to support the business case for investing in Surrey; and

Manages and negotiates contracts with the division's external marketing and professional service vendors and ensure the City's procurement processes are followed.

Corporate Reporting and Metrics
Supports external business association (Business Improvement Association and Tourism Surrey) stakeholders with their annual reporting and renewal requirements and ensures compliance with associated governing municipal bylaws;
Leads the team's efforts in preparing Council corporate reports on a variety of strategic economic topics according to the City's reporting standards;
Supports grant-writing and proposal development to advance economic development strategic initiatives;
Monitors success metrics for quarterly and annual reporting on behalf of the division; and
Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in business administration, accounting, public policy, and/or project management;
A minimum of three (3) years of current experience in project management and policy;
Applicants with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may also be considered;
Experience with managing complex processes and reporting requirements;
Strong research/analytical reporting;
Strong attention to detail and critical thinking with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Understanding of economic development and business growth and success;
Ability to manage a complex workload in a fast-paced environment with multiple initiatives;
Experience working within a municipal government and preparing reports for elected officials will be considered assets;
Desire to take responsibility for individual contribution to team projects;
Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality deliverables; and
Professional and enthusiastic attitude coupled with strong business acumen.
Conditions of Employment

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check.
