The East Harbour Transit Hub will be a new interchange station connecting passengers between the future Ontario Line subway and the existing Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO Transit lines.

This project is delivered by the East Harbour Transit Hub Alliance, a partnership between Metrolinx, Hatch, and Rail Connect Partners (a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Bird Construction).

The scope of the Alliance includes the station building with GO Transit station communication systems, GO Transit trackwork, rail bridges over Eastern Avenue and the future Broadview Avenue, and infrastructure to support the future Ontario Line subway.


The Safety Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the technical functions of the Safety Assurance team are delivered to schedule and budget and are integrated with the functions of the Alliance Project Teams.

They are responsible for developing the safety evidence to demonstrate that the EHTH system(s) has been designed, constructed, and integrated to provide an acceptable level of safety that will support Metrolinx acceptance.

The Safety Assurance Specialist will work closely with and report to the Systems Engineering and Systems Assurance Manager.


Location - Toronto, ON

Your role within the team:


  • Develop and implement the Project's System Safety Plan.
  • Conduct hazard analyses to identify potential hazards and assess the safety of identified systems.
  • Participate in technical meetings (including but not limited to design criteria challenge sessions, review comments resolution), risk reviews, change management, claims and disputes resolution, and provide technical support in tasks surrounding safety assurance.
  • Work with the Design team to provide feedback during design reviews and identify and resolve safety related issues.
  • Manage the design and implementation of the safety assurance scope for the Project, including hazard identification, safety analyses, verification and validation evidence review, and safety assurance case production.
  • Monitor compliance with the Project's applicable standards and the Project Alliance Agreement to ensure that the system is safe.
  • Represent the safety assurance team in project meetings and communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Stay informed about industry advancements and technologies and recommend changes to improve project efficiency and safety.
  • Provide training to staff and other stakeholders on safety procedures and best practices.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, safety management, or a related field.
  • P.Eng. or eligible to obtain P.Eng. status.
  • Experience in safety assurance, with a focus on delivering rail infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn safety industry standards and regulations, particularly CENELEC.
  • Interest in developing knowledge of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and be able to identify potential issues and assess risk accurately.
