Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Community Outreach Coordinator provides individualized support to parents who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them to meet their identified parenting goals. They also provide group-based parenting education designed to support parents in fostering healthy development in their children and building healthy relationships. Further, the Community Outreach Coordinator will collect data and develop community connections to help build long-term program sustainability.
The schedule will vary based on the needs of program participants. Evening and weekend work will be required on an as-needed basis. Shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break where applicable. The Program Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule; flexibility will be required.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Carryout intake processes, including assessment and interview, for each program participant
• Provide individualized training and education aimed to assist program participants in achieving their identified parenting goals
• Document training procedures and track individual progress
• Develop, promote, and facilitate support groups aimed to address the needs of program participants
• Provide community referrals and service navigation support to help meet individual need
• Provide education based on evidence-informed best practices in child development
• Respond to emergencies and other serious occurrences in a timely manner and in accordance with policy
• Assist individuals in building natural supports to help foster community engagement
• Work collaboratively with program participants, family support networks, and other developmental service agencies as required to help build sustainable support structures
• Act in accordance with anti-oppressive practice and the principles of inclusion, equity, and diversity as per agency policy
• Complete risk assessments and introduce health & safety controls to help mitigate risk to program participants and others as appropriate
• Accurately collect program data and assist with program evaluation as required
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Child and Family Services Act and its implications for parents with cognitive limitations
• Abide by the limits of confidentiality and the duty to report as per policy; consult with the Program Supervisor as appropriate
• Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and the performance evaluation process
• Ensure the upkeep, cleanliness and general maintenance of all workspaces
• Complete all training requirements in alignment with MCCSS and agency standards
• Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner, reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army
• Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor, Program Director, or Executive Director
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

• Regular interaction with Program Supervisor and other team members
• Regular interaction with program participants and their families
External:
• Primary care support team
• Community partners
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
• This position reports directly to the Program Supervisor
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
• Uses and maintains organizational assets in accordance with established guidelines.
• Does not process any financial transactions and does not have budget responsibilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Working environment is in the Hamilton community, homes of program participants, and in office
• May be required to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of program participants

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion of a formal post-secondary program of at least two academic years: Developmental Services Worker, Early Childhood Educator, Psychology, or equivalent
• Current First Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation with Defibrillation training required or willingness to obtain upon hiring
• Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certification required or willingness to obtain uupon hiring
• Provide an original copy of Criminal Records Check (CRC) with vulnerable sector screening secured through either the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment; Note: A satisfactory criminal background check is required
• Must have valid Ontario Class "G" or G2 Driver's license and access to a vehicle
EXPERIENTIAL AND KNOWLEDGE:
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and vulnerable populations
• Alternative combination of experience and education can be considered
• Knowledge of evidence based, trauma informed practices is considered an asset
• Experience in individual program planning including development and/or implementation of Individual Support Care Plans and/or Behavioural Support Plans
• Knowledge and experience using MS Office software
• Experience working with individuals that are diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is considered an asset
• Experience working with individuals in the Canadian Justice system is considered an asset
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection methods is an asset
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS & CAPABILITIES:
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures
• Demonstrated ability to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for program participants
• Demonstrated ability to assess and report changes in physical and emotional well-being and to offer a compassionate approach to supporting each client and their family
• Strong verbal, written, and active listening communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to shifting priorities
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics, with a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $23.28 to $29.10 with a maximum of $34.92.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
