The Marine Second Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer and participates in the operation of the vessel George-Alexandre Lebel, mainly by operating, maintaining, and repairing the machinery and equipment in the engine room.
Major Responsibilities
Perform daily inspection on all machinery and navigation system
Make needed repairs on machinery
Maintain logbook and documentation regarding the engine room and machinery
Make sure the instructions from the Mechanical Chief are followed
Working Conditions
The role has a standard workweek from Monday to Friday
The role must be available to work a 40-hour week with occasional overtime
Weekend work is required occasionally
Requirements
College Diploma (DEC) in Marine Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Marine Engineer 2nd Class certificate issued by Transport Canada
Valid Transport Canada medical examination certificate
Interpersonal and organizational communications
Cognitive, problem-solving, teamwork and technical skills
Thoroughness and cleanliness with health and safety awareness
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Knowledge of English at a functional level*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset
Training
The role is required to attend internal training to learn how CN's operations work and the Company's policies and procedures.
