GENERAL SUMMARY


The Youth Development & Program Specialist contributes to the management and supervision of Critical Hours programming for children and youth aged 6-18 years, provides leadership to part-time staff and volunteers in conjunction with the Clubhouse Manager, and provides guidance and role-modeling throughout programming.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Supervises Peer Mentors (Youth Futures)
  • Supports positive mentormentee relationships
  • Develops and delivers appropriate training material to the Peer Mentors
  • Models and fosters supportive and inclusive participation
  • Works closely with partners to support programming, placements
  • Attends monthly Youth Futures Project team meetings with partners
  • Organizes events (YF graduation, speaking engagements)
  • Manages and reports on participant attendance
  • Documents and reports on challenges, lessons learned and successes
  • Coordinates Leaders 4 Life programming across all clubhouses, ensures consistency across program delivery
  • Support leadership programming (Youth Councils, Torch Club, Keystone) across clubhouses
  • Seeks opportunities to promote leadership programming at BGC Ottawa
  • Sits on various internal and external committees

Education:


  • College/University Degree in a social services discipline
  • 2 years experience working in the youth serving field
  • First Aid/CPR
  • HIGH FIVE certificate is an asset

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILS AND ABILITIES:


  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated C&Y mentoring and counseling skills
  • Ability to work effectively with children and youth
  • Demonstrated organizational and program planning skills
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills
  • Demonstrated direct leadership skills
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and within a team environment with mínimal supervision
  • Bilingualism is an asset (French)
