Job Number:49602**The LRT Signals Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, modification and emergency response of the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) Light Rail Transit (LRT) signaling system.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to be Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Install, configure, program, maintain and repair electrical equipment
  • Document preventative maintenance, trouble and repair records
  • Participate in oncall rotation
  • Update electrical drawings and prints, in addition to preparing documentation pertaining to new and existing electrical systems
  • Conduct acceptance and evaluation tests on new equipment, as well as documenting results and compiling reports
  • Provide onthejob training for apprentices and less experienced Signal Technicians
  • Routing train movements safely around work zones while trains are in full public operation
  • Develop safe work plans and promote a safe work environment
  • Respond to trouble calls while limiting the impacts to LRT Operations
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Journeyperson Electrician and/or Power Systems Electrician
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience of being a Journeyperson Electrician or Power Systems Electrician
  • Experience working on and around medium voltage systems with mechanical aptitude to understand the operation of motor driven devices
  • Knowledge of LRT or any Railway signaling system would be considered an asset
  • Understanding of train movements and schedules
  • Knowledge of the track construction and maintenance, including the use of specialized tools, occupational hazards and safety precautions would be an asset
  • Familiarity with block signaling logic, design and engineering prints
  • Able to comprehend complex relaying control processes
  • Ability to prepare and maintain documentation, such comprehensive maintenance reports
  • Experience using a variety of computer software to complete assigned tasks including familiarity with software based control processes, standby power systems and GE proprietary software would be an asset
  • Familiarity with American Railway Engineering and MaintenanceofWay Association (AREMA), Transport Canada, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and ETS Standards
  • Ability to use computer systems to track work, read prints, and communicate information
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to meet the physical demands required to install and maintain signaling equipment including medium to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to foster and build a positive workplace culture including the ability to resolve conflict and problem solve
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days and overnights, Monday
  • Sunday
  • Will be required to complete "A" Book Qualified Operator within one (1) year of being hired
  • Will be required to complete LRT Signal passport within three (3) years of being hired
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
  • Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
