ABOUT THIS ROLE
Burlington Hydro Inc. ("BHI") is seeking a Billing Clerk to join our Billing department.

Reporting to the Billing Manager, this position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and timeliness of our billing processes, including customer electric and water billing, as well as retailer settlement and maintenance of water/wastewater billing records.

This individual must be detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills and a talent for prioritizing tasks. This is an on-site position.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain all residential and commercial water/wastewater billing records in accordance with the terms of the Region contract
  • Work with the variance report; review and correct billing exceptions
  • Process residential and commercial water corrections and issue corrected bills as required
  • Run and process various reports to maintain the accuracy of water records
  • Prepare monthly Region spreadsheet in a timely manner
  • Follow Region of Halton's best business practices
  • Process connects, disconnects and meter changes from the Region
  • Contact customers advising them of large catchup bills and high consumption as directed by the Region
  • Process "Red Card" using an automated phone system
  • Daily coordination of meter reading schedule with the contractor
  • Water rate change testing
  • Back up other department positions
  • All other duties as assigned

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in a business/technical field or significant related experience
  • Familiarity with Ontario Electricity Market Rules, Distribution System Code, and Retail Settlement Code
  • Experience with electricity billing and retail settlement would be an asset

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, including Word and Excel
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relation skills; professional with a good work ethic and positive approach to work and coworkers
  • Energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated interest in process improvements and adaptability to change
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision
