We want you to join us as a member of our dynamic and collaborative team Working in a cross functional and growing municipal environment, you will be responsible for a vast array of activities within our Roads Team and Operations Department.

The Operator II- Roads operates heavy equipment such as graders, loaders, backhoes, gradalls, and any other specialized equipment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing maintenance, construction and repair work to roads, storm sewers, catch basins, ditches, sidewalks, storm facilities under the direction of the Field Supervisor
  • Operations
  • Ensuring assigned grading/zoning receives the proper type of grading (i.e. spot grading, full grade, float, scarifying, partial grading, shouldering, specialized grading, hard surface road preparation, road chip maintenance, gravel etc.)
  • Ensuring assigned excavation, ditching and culvert projects are constructed as per proposed design line and grade. Acting as the contact person between the project and the supervisor
  • Performing general maintenance duties, including but not limited to: road patrol inspections; winter maintenance; brushing, clearing and tree trimming and removal; cold and hot mix patching; traffic control as per book
  • Job Requirements
  • Minimum of a secondary school diploma (grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a Roads Operations environment and minimum maintenance standards procedures.
  • Propane certification is mandatory. Must be certified in traffic control as per Book
  • Experience with and use of various types of heavy equipment including Single Axle and Tandem Axle dump trucks, graders, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, gradalls, etc; knowledge of and ability to operate various hand and power equipment/tools; ability to plow and sand and to operate equipment around utilities; general knowledge of mechanical equipment.
  • Minimum class "DZ" Driver's License, in good standing and reliable vehicle and a clean driver's abstract; "AZ" license is an asset.
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts (including days, afternoons and evenings).
