As a member of the Annual and Leadership Giving team working under the general direction of the Associate Director, Development, the Development Officer (DO) will be responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting donors for annual gifts ($1 - $999) and leadership annual gifts ($1,000 - $49,999) on behalf of the Rotman School of Management.
The incumbent is responsible for following up with self-selected prospects by making personal calls and involving them, as appropriate, in campus activities.
This will be part of a tailored program to gain and enhance the interest and involvement of individuals who directly, or through other sources, are capable of making gifts at these levels.
The incumbent will be responsible for making solicitation calls.The incumbent will also ensure proper stewardship takes place following a gift to maintain the donor's involvement, interest and support.
The incumbent will also support key activities of the Annual Leadership Giving portfolio, such as Rotman Giving Day.Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
- Identifying, evaluating and recommending the necessary steps to bring the prospect closer to making a major financial commitment to the University
- Conducting advanced research and analysis from a variety of sources to provide detailed background data on donors
- Developing and implementing plans to support donor management and stewardship strategies and/or activities
- Developing tailored fundraising opportunities that support strategic initiatives
- Writing briefing notes, solicitation plans and call reports to track donor interaction
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education.
- Minimum three years' experience in a staff fundraising role or equivalent experience with a proven track record of success
- Demonstrated prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition experience
- Demonstrated experience drafting complex donor reports and communications
- Demonstrated project management, liaison and relationship management experience
- Evidence of leadership and initiative, tact, diplomacy, attention to detail and, creativity
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
- Strong organizational, analytical and relationship building skills
- Highly developed computer skills working with MS Office; databases (including ARBOR); and content management systems
- Ability to work in a fast paced and results oriented environment
- Proven ability to motivate others, i.e. volunteers, team members, donors
- Strong team player who values collaboration
