We are seeking high performing nurse professionals to join our Corporate Health Care and Wellness team at the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

As an Assistant Health Care Manager, Infection Prevention and Control, you will be a leader in the planning, development and implementation of system-wide programs and improvements in infection surveillance, prevention and control for Ontario's correctional facilities.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Provide expertise on infection prevention, control and management programs, policies and best practices, and coordinate on-going education to institutional staff on infection prevention and control principles and practices
  • Lead surveillance activities and work collaboratively with institutional management team to ensure infection control is in compliance with government guidelines and IPAC principles
  • Provide professional direction, coaching and counseling in evidencedbased nursing techniques and practices
  • Supervise nurses in the coordination and administration of various physiological tests, e.g., COVID19 and tuberculosis testing
  • Assist in the development, implementation, review and evaluation of institutions' health care programs and services, provide occupational health advice and assist in the management of absenteeism related to infections
  • Maintain records and statistics to identify trends and developments that have critical program/service delivery, and/or policy and planning implications

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • You are a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • You have a valid Ontario driver's licence

Specialized Knowledge:


  • You have knowledge of infection prevention and control theories, methods and best practices to monitor infections and outbreaks, and provide occupational health advice
  • You have knowledge of nursing administration, relevant legislation, PIDAC best practices standards, the College of Nurses professional standards, guidelines and practices to coordinate health care programs and services, and provide professional direction, coaching in evidencedbased nursing techniques and practices
  • You have knowledge of quality assurance and improvement principles and programs, including assessment, identification and management of risks

Critical Thinking, Planning and Coordination Skills:

  • You can analyze epidemiology data for nosocomial, viral respiratory and other infection transmissions, assess health trends and determinants, monitor and evaluate program and operational policy issues to develop best options and recommendation
  • You can coordinate the development, implementation, review and evaluation of health care programs and services to ensure high standards are maintained
  • You can assess risks, diagnose health care/medical problems, symptoms and/or emergencies, and make sound determinations on health care and special services needs
  • You can plan and coordinate ongoing education to institutional staff, and ensure nurses are properly trained in nursing techniques and practices

Leadership Skills:


  • You have leadership skills to provide oversight on infection prevention and control operations and surveillance activities, perform audits, direct staff and represent the ministry on key public health and stakeholder consultations and discussions

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:


  • You can communicate clearly and effectively to discuss health care concerns, exchange information and seek health care advice
  • You can liaise effectively with institutional management and staff, community partners, agencies and organizations and other key stakeholders on various health care matters
