    The Health & Fitness Programs Supervisor (Child, Youth & Family) and the department team will provide direct leadership to execute all 'dry land' child and youth activities in the facility including child minding, preschool gym, play structure, martial arts, all children and youth instructional and recreational programs, Youth Leadership Development, Teen Night, and all family programming that takes place in the centre.

    In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate programs within the Association's Membership Services Plan to attract and retain the diverse membership of the centre; including managing the process of inquiry to registration to long term participation and retention.
  • Provide leadership and support/delivery to all Children and Youth programs including (but not limited to) Soccer, Basketball, Sports and Games, House Leagues, Badminton, Dance, Martial Arts, Camps, Youth Leadership Development and Teen Night.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training and coaching of YMCA staff and volunteer teams within the outlined program areas. Responsible for the ongoing development and evaluation of staff and volunteers in the outlined program areas.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with YMCA standards in regards to safety, child protection and program quality.
  • Assist Director in developing and managing departmental budgets and achieves all performance indicators and standards including those related to MOR, Healthy Child Development, Playing to Learn, retention and YMCA Priority Sam Standards.
  • Provide leadership and support as a member of the Centre's senior staff team. Act as an effective Service Leader as required.
  • Participate in task groups, special assignments and opportunities that further the Association mission, vision and strategic initiatives including the Core Service Functional Group.
  • Connect with community and external organizations, and other YMCAs to participate in a community of practice for program development, measurement and design.
  • Understand the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
  • Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • You bring:

  • Diploma or Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Early Childhood Educator, Youth Worker, Physical Education or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience delivering Child and Youth programs
  • Minimum 1-year supervisory experience preferred
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C
  • Current certifications/qualifications in the following preferred: Coaching certification (any sport), Healthy Child Development, High Five
  • Knowledge and understanding of physical literacy and child development
  • Previous experience in development and implementation of new programs an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership skills developed through progressively responsible experience; ability to encourage, motivate staff and volunteers, acknowledge and appreciate contributions
  • Proficiency with computer software including Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including days, evenings and weekend
