Job Summary:

Education:


  • Completion of a postsecondary diploma or degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related field of study (e.g. Planning/Environmental Management/Environmental Science).
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and qualifications may be considered.

Knowledge:


  • 35 years of Transportation Planning experience.
  • 23 years of experience or background in computerized traffic analysis models and transportation/planning studies is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), MTO Geometric Design Standards, MTO Roadside Safety Manual, TAC Geometric Design Guidelines, Ontario Traffic Manual (Book
  • Temporary Conditions) and all applicable legislation and regulations (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Municipal Act, etc.), and applicable contract law.
  • Knowledge of project development, scheduling, monitoring, and control systems.
  • Certified or eligible for certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician and Technologists (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technician (CET) or equivalent related designation.
  • P.Eng. or E.I.T is preferred.

Responsibilities:


  • Reviews and verifies transportation/traffic reports, design concepts/preliminary designs to ensure compliance with Regional and industry requirements.
  • Reviews, prepares and provides detailed transportation planning comments on Transportation Impact Assessment (TIA) studies.
  • Coordinates Complete Streets/Active Transportation components.
  • Assists with providing detailed information to Municipal requests regarding transportation models and forecasts as needed.
  • Assists with Travel Demand Management (TDM) initiatives as needed.

_ Supports internal and external studies related to corridor reviews, environmental assessment studies and traffic impact assessments.

  • Uses Regional annual traffic data to assist with the development and maintenance of the Regional Transportation Model(s) and other traffic studies, as directed by the manager.
  • Provides support in the review of transportation/ traffic studies, official plan and secondary plans, as directed.
  • Supports the Project Managers of various transportation environmental assessment projects and other transportation/ traffic studies/initiatives (e.g., Transportation Master Plan, Complete Streets, Secondary Plans, etc.).

_ Defends the data, assumptions, procedures, methodologies, techniques and tools used to derive transportation capacity and demand at meetings with municipal officials, Senior staff, Committees of Council, external agencies, associations and senior levels of government and the public, as required.
