We are looking for an Associate Graduate Underwriter.

This role is on our Energy & Construction lob, and will be located onsite at our Toronto, Ontario, Canada office.


The Associate Graduate Program
Is a 12-month internal AGCS training program designed to attract, develop, and retain the next generation of insurance professionals.

AGCS believes in early career development of our Associates and the Program will support your growth as a well-rounded technical expert and potential future leader.

The start date of the program will be Monday, July 10, 2023.

We are committed to best serve our partners and clients in the Energy & Construction area by offering customized solutions from initial construction through to the operational phase.


The Impact You Will Have


Reporting to the Head of Energy and Construction Canada, this position will take prime responsibility for preparing underwriting process within own area of responsibility and expertise (has underwriting authority) and liaise with other functions to ensure timely/accurate policy administration.

Also develop and maintain peer level relationships with brokers.


Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Underwriting new and renewable accounts to meet top and bottom-line targets within predefined underwriting authority in line with energy and construction underwriting authorities, global MSU, guidelines etc.
  • Participate in acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary) in line with underwriting strategy
  • Prepare relevant underwriting information including client/market research and claims data
  • Assist in evaluation of natural catastrophe accumulation, pricing of risks, and using global tools as appropriate
  • Assist in: binding of FAC Reinsurance, development of portfolio steering tools, adhoc inquiries, accuracy of data processing, and assistance to senior business partners (prepping reports/presentations/workshops etc.)
  • Proactively establish and maintain policy file (whether electronic or paper) for each risk and transaction handled. Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to broker (where AGCS responsibility to do so) or broker has issued documentation (where broker responsibility). Support administration of International Insurance Programs (for relevant LoBs)
  • Manage timely and accurate booking of policy premiums and credit control / collection processes. Proactively work with other functions (e.g. operations, credit control) to resolve outstanding accounts queries

What You'll Bring to the Role

We'd like to find someone with at least 1-3 years of basic understanding of regional and local line of business insurance markets and competitor landscape.

Evidence of relationship building with brokers at peer group level. Preferably a bachelor's degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Business, Economics, Law, or other appropriate discipline. Progress towards a professional insurance qualification would be a bonus.
