ROLE OVERVIEW**

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**- Ensure employee Health and Safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, company policies and regulations

  • Responsible for ensuring proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Coordinates open pit activities; loading, hauling, dumping and miscellaneous activities
  • Control pit operations to detect violation of safety regulations and compile safety and production records
  • Assist in work scheduling and planning, ensuring alignment to weekly planning, ensuring alignment to weekly plan deliverables
  • Prepare reports on accident/incident that happen during the shift
  • Conduct daily preshift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production issues
  • Organize training for equipment operators to improve their competencies
  • Understand, promote, and operate by overall company vision, values, goals, objectives and strategies
  • Provide job specific instructions daily basis and monitor progress
  • Ensure that all mining employees are properly trained on the use of appropriate equipment
  • Communicate routinely and effectively with the Project Manager and other supervisors as required
  • Build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders not limited to but including Technical Services and Maintenance Teams
  • Participate in the weekly planning process by providing inputs and highlighting any shortfalls within the plan that have the potential to disrupt operations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED
SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with mínimal supervision at times
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and excellent followup skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Mining or heavy industrial construction experience considered an asset
  • Ability and willingness to work different schedules on site based on project needs
  • Posthigh school training in a related area

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 35 years' experience as a shift Supervisor, in an open pit, with demonstrated leadership competencies
  • Technical expertise: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
  • Listens and seeks confirmation of understanding
  • Effectively responds well to questions
  • Must be fluent in the English language
  • Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Thiess is required

PYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a time
  • Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders
  • Able to work for extended 12hour shifts
  • Can work night shifts (7 p.m. 7 a.m.) seven days at a time and properly manage fatigue
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)
  • Quick response/reaction times
  • Armhand steadiness and manual dexterity

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
