The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) works in collaboration with the nursing, laboratory, administration, and accounting teams, and supports the physicians with clinical duties while embracing Olive Fertility Centre's concept and mission statement.

This position requires the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) or Sterile Supply Technician (SST) certificate.


Key Areas of Involvement Include:


  • Set up of procedure room.
  • Sterilize probes using Trophon system.
  • Tidy and clean procedure and examination rooms between procedures.
  • Wash, pack, and autoclave instruments following all established Standard Operating Procedures and meeting all College of Physicians of BC requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Restock procedure rooms, assessment rooms and ultrasound rooms.
  • Clean recovery area and tidy private patient washrooms and changerooms.
  • Assisting in patient admission and discharge, providing preprocedure/ultrasound instructions, collection of urine sample and testing of urine sample, assisting with procedure room change over and tray set up.
  • Ensures the accurate, timely and complete documentation of all records keeping relating to MDR as required by the College of Physicians of BC.
  • Follows all clinical policies, SOP's, MIFU, MSDS sheets and work instructions. Adheres to Occupational Health and Safety responsibilities and functions.
  • Participating in regular training, annual audits and competency assessments and routine evaluations to ensure accreditation standards are maintained.

  • Review of infectious disease bloodwork and obtaining outstanding results

  • Other duties as required by operational needs.

Professional Development

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications and relevant textbooks.
  • Seeks out and completes continuing education modules, where available, and conferences in the field of medical device reprocessing, infertility, women's health nursing, or patient care excellence (per approval by manager).
  • Seeks education internally from colleagues and peers, attending learning sessions offered by the employer when available.
  • Registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Device Reprocessing is preferred, but not mandatory.

Behaviour And Conduct

  • Abide by and follow Olive Fertility Centre's Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Maintains punctuality, arrives at work in the morning allowing time to change into scrubs (if needed) and begin patient care or assigned duty by scheduled start time.
  • Role is very demanding and requires maximum concentration and presence of mind.
  • Wear scrubs only on the premises of the clinic, or within the building in which the clinic location is situated. Coming from home, going home, or exiting the building while in scrubs is unacceptable and prohibited.
  • Consistently considerate of colleagues and maintains a professional environment.

Team Efforts

  • Works cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care, while meeting the objectives and goals of the practice.
  • Works weekends and holidays as scheduled, inclusive of oncall responsibilities.
  • Acts as a liaison between the nursing and other departments to disseminate information and communicate areas for continual quality improvement.
  • Attends practice, team, and department meetings as requested.

Qualifications:


Education, Training and Experience:


  • Grade 12 graduation, successful completion of a Sterile Processing Technician certification program or a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician certification program, and completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Theory Course, plus two (2) year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of the Canadian Standards Association Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians program is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is preferred, but not mandatory.
