All camp staff work as part of a camp team plan to provide hands-on, environmental-based programs that suit the ages, needs and interests of our participants.

As a camp staff, you will lead nature walks, active and passive games, and activities with your group as you go on daily explorations of our wetlands, fields, and forests.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, participate and supervise children in educational camp activities onsite at RBG.
  • Provide for the necessary care for each child.
  • Always behave in a childcentred manner with a focus on care, compassion, kindness, and growth.
  • Act in a professional and courteous manner to all coworkers, volunteers, visitors, campers and their families at all times.
  • Provide suggestions for program enhancement and to follow prescribed programs while being proactive, flexible, and creative.
  • Obtain and develop learning materials/resources.
  • Assist with the daily upkeep of all facilities.
  • Act as an ambassador; meet and greet the public, provide direction/ interpretation.
  • Provide written reports of activities or incidents when requested to attend staff meetings.
  • Attend all training sessions including precamp and evening training.
  • Complete incident reports when necessary.
  • Maintain client/camper confidentiality at all times.

Requirements:


  • Attending secondary or postsecondary institution or graduate of, with studies preferably in education, recreational leadership, environmental science or pure science.
  • Preference for applicants demonstrating adequate years working with children in educational/recreational programs.
  • Behave in a childcentred manner at all times with a focus on care, compassion, kindness, and growth.
  • Must have a First Aid Certificate, minimum level Standard First Aid with CPR-C. See notes below.
  • Attend all precamp and incamp training days as scheduled.

Notes

Note 1:
Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check


All camp staff require a Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check, their own expense and must be submitted prior to beginning work.

VS checks are to be obtained from the Municipality in which you permanently reside at your own expense. Please check your local Police Services website to confirm what identification is required, cost and payment method.

Upon an offer you must provide an original VS Check as indicated above with a "Date of Search" of less than sixty (60) days from hire date.

Checks greater than sixty (60) days will not be accepted.


Note 2:
Minimum Age Requirement for Camp Staff


Following the Ontario Camps Association (OCA) standards (published 2023), all staff who have direct supervisory and programming responsibilities with participants, whether in an assistant role or not must be at least sixteen (16) years of age within the calendar year.
