Senior Manager, Cabin Safety & Onboard Products

  • Non-Bargaining

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:_
  • Ensuring that all Commissary & Catering department personnel have safety as their primary objective by adhering to the Canadian North safety policy and utilizing the appropriate safety reporting program in order to identify and communicate all known hazards and risks to the organization;
  • Ensuring continual improvement through the periodic review of all processes;
  • Ensuring that Commissary & Catering department personnel execute their duties with a positive and supportive approach when interacting with the internal and external customers;
  • Developing and administering the Commissary budget;
  • Managing and supporting the daytoday functions of YOW & YFB Commissary agents, along with the Coordinator of Catering & Inflight Product;
  • Ensuring adequate oncall and weekend coverage schedule to ensure adequate support in event of IROPS;
  • Maintaining relationships with suppliers and sourcing new suppliers and equipment as required;
  • Ensuring Health Canada requirements are met and participating in audits related to food services;
  • Maintaining food safety training program for cabin crew;
  • Preparing catering orders with major vendors;
  • Receiving, reviewing and actioning invoices;
  • Preparing reports of inventory, utilization and sales for commissary, catering and inflight products from which detailed analysis can be made;
  • Conducting regular physical audits of kitchens and Canadian North facilities handling catering;
  • Submitting catering orders and coordinating food and beverage services for scheduled/charter flights and airlines operating on behalf of Canadian North;
  • Reviewing Inflight reports to investigate, provide solutions and respond to observations made by crew members;
  • Frequent travel on flights to monitor all aspects of catering and inflight product loading, equipment, management, delivery and customer experience;
  • Maintaining a program to monitor and inspect on board equipment including carriers and trolleys;
  • Ensuring that all departmental manuals, service training and forms are current;
  • Seeking out efficiencies and ways to improve processes and products;
  • Reconciling and preparing departmental visa expenses;
  • Maintaining and providing service training for cabin crew;
  • Working with Charter Sales on service requests appropriate for the client, crew and flight time;
  • Maintaining and renewing liquor licences, including associated reporting as required by the LCBO and CRA;
  • Ensuring that the reporting of accidents, incidents or hazards are reported appropriately and within a timely manner;
  • Assisting with safety investigations;
  • Conducting audits or assisting with audits;
  • Conducting risk assessments and root cause investigation;
  • Assisting in the development and monitoring of corrective actions plans;
  • Conducting workplace inspection as required by the Safety Department;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:_
  • Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:_
  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience;
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant previous experience;
  • Relevant airline experience considered an asset (e.g. passenger/ramp handling, catering, charter operations, etc);
  • Must be fully proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word Power Point);
  • Previous experience with inventory distribution and control;
  • Operational knowledge/understanding of cargo load control, aircraft limitations and ground handling services would be an asset;
  • Adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast paced, teamoriented environment with strong time management skills;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills for internal/external customers and contacts;
  • Exceptional organizational, problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision;
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and display a high level of initiative, creativity and enthusiasm;
  • Previous event planning experience an asset;
  • Must be able to work irregular hours to meet demands of charter operations including weekends, holidays and on call, as required;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset;
  • NFSTP (National Food Safety Training Program) an asset, or ability to obtain certification;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
