The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) is a child and youth mental health centre integrated with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

GH-CCMH is also a core service provider within the
Toronto region of Child and Youth Community Mental Health Providers.

As such, the Centre has an ambitious agenda to provide the highest quality evidence-informed care offering a range of services from prevention and early intervention through counselling and therapy, assessment and intensive supports.

Services are provided in both in-person and virtual formats.

We are seeking applicants to fill a full-time contract position as Communications Advisor


This role will support:


  • Internal and external communications, including major campaigns and corporate initiatives (reporting to the Senior
Communications Supervisor)


  • The strategic focus of developing pathways to care for services between The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) (reporting to the Senior
Clinical Manager of the Mental Health Access Program, Research and Foundation Operations, and consulting with the Senior Communications Supervisor).


Key Responsibilities:


Working with the Senior Communications Supervisor, you will:

  • Write for different target audiences, including staff and clients/families and program participants, on major organizational initiatives for 2023 including delivery of Qmentum Accreditation for Accreditation Canada, as well as regular infection prevention and control updates
  • Write and edit posts, including team highlights, for our internal staff news site, _Connections, _on SharePoint
  • Using WordPress, edit, finalize and publish website updates
  • Support staff teams to create SharePoint pages
  • Create editorial content for GH-CCMH social media channels
  • Oversee internal and external content for the organization's recognition days editorial calendar
  • Assist with communications requests from staff, including advising on/editing flyers for clients and families
  • Support other communications requests as required (such as support with Town Halls or promoting programs to participants)

Working with the Senior Clinical Manager, MHAP, Research and Foundation Operations, you will:

  • Contribute to the workplan (as a member of the Pathways Working Group) by developing a strategic communications plan to support pathways work
  • Write referral criteria for SickKids and GH-CCMH programs that can be communicated internally to staff at both sites
  • Communicate referral criteria to different target audiences, including staff and clients/families and program participants
  • Oversee the production of video content designed to help clients and families navigate the pathways
  • Create pathways content for the website
  • Using WordPress, edit, finalize and publish website updates
  • Support staff teams to create SharePoint pages

  • Complies with the organization's vision, policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management

Effort:


  • Concentration and creativity are required daily to write/edit and proofread communications, attend meetings
(virtual and in person)

Sitting at a desk for long periods of time daily (i.e. to use a computer) to perform the duties of the job


Qualifications:


  • Degree/diploma in journalism, public relations, communications or a related area is required
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of writing experience in journalism, internal communications or public relations agency settings
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal skills; deep knowledge of CP style
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), social media platforms
(Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram) and MailChimp

  • Understanding of accessibility needs in communications and AODA compliance
  • Ability to convert complex information to plain language
  • Ability to rapidly write short, engaging content for broad audiences, both internal and external
  • Sound judgment, a professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills to interact successfully with personnel at all levels
  • Exceptional attention to organizational writing style and branding guidelines
