About The Child and Youth Department:Designed to be a preventative, intervention, and resiliency-based support for all youth demographics ages 7-18 years of age. Our programs and services build resilient children and youth by developing trust, empathy, empowering young individuals, improving self-worth, communication skills, and healthy coping skills.


Programs and Services include:

Mentoring Program (Enhanced), Junior Mentor Program, Heart of the Matter Program, Community Helpers Program, Mindful Minds, Summer Programs, and Community Presentations/Workshops.


About The Role:
Some Other Solutions is seeking a Community Outreach Worker to join our Child and Youth Team. This is a full-time permanent position.

The Community Outreach Worker will facilitate programs to youth ages 7-18 years of age along with services professionals working with youth and caregivers.


Position Summary:

The Community Outreach Worker is responsible for engaging youth in Wood Buffalo and the surrounding communities to reduce barriers for children and youth in accessing services and resources around mental health and wellness.

Providing education opportunities to children and youth through Some Other Solutions in school and community programs to enhance the well-being of the children, youth, and young adult population by creating confident, resilient individuals in the community.

The Community Outreach Worker ensures all components are effectively integrated with Some Other Solutions programs and services and stay in line with the organizations mission, vision and core values.


This position reports to the Child and Youth Program Manager.

Responsibilities:


  • Building relationships and trust with children, youth, caregivers, professionals, and community partners
  • Planning, preparing, and facilitating Child and Youth Programs (Youth Mentoring, Junior Mentors, Heart of the Matter, Mindful Minds, Summer Programming and any other programs and services as applicable)
  • Promoting and facilitating resiliency skills in programs and services (competence, confidence, connection, character, contribution, coping and control)
  • Promoting and facilitating skill building and supportive counselling within programs and services
  • Preparing materials and activities for weekly programs and services for children and youth
  • Planning, preparing and facilitating community engagement which include presentations, workshops, or sessions for children, youth, caregivers, or individuals working with youth
  • Ensuring programs reflects logic models and achieved intended outcomes
  • Providing a safe space for children and youth to be themselves, explore, learn, and grow
  • Staying abreast of child and youth trends and services both inside and outside the community
  • Participating in school and community events and activities
  • Engaging and collaborating with local community partners
  • Overseeing completion of evaluation tools for program and organization
  • Adapting programs to be able to be offered through different avenues such as: inperson, virtually, community based, in office
  • Identify potential community partners to offer programs and services to
  • Sitting on and attending relevant community committees or meetings
  • Facilitating access to mental health, suicide prevention, and other areas of referral as required
  • Being available and prepared to cover oncall shifts for the 24 hour crisis line

Requirements:


  • Diploma or Degree in Community Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health and Wellness, Child Development, Human Service, or related field. Other related education and experience will be considered
  • At least 2 years experience working directly with youth, facilitating oneonone and large groups, and mental health and wellness experience would be an asset
  • Must have strong facilitation skills
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is required
  • Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check will be required
