Position Description

A temporary part time (0.6) Counsellor/Behaviour Support/Indigenous Transition Coach is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. The assignment will be at the Energetic Learning Campus

Qualifications and Experience

Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)

Cognizant of the learning outcomes and evaluation process outlined in the Provincial IRP core curriculum documents

Advanced training in educational psychology and counseling (Master's Degree Preferred)

Ability to work in counseling capacity with students at the high school level

Individual counseling as well as group counseling experience (social skills, anger management, anxiety, self-regulation, etc)

Degree and/or training in Special Education

Experience/knowledge working with ELL students

Experience/knowledge

working with transitioning indigenous students to be successful in

their academic studies as they move from Grade 9 to Grade 10 and the

beginning of the Graduation Program.

Strong background

in Indigenous Peoples' prehistory, culture, and contemporary life/issues

through considerable personal life experience and coursework in

Indigenous Education Studies

Extensive


knowledge of the educational teaching approaches, including:
outdoor/place - based learning, UDL, Elder teachings and Indigenous ways

of knowing

Oral and written fluency in an Indigenous language would be an asset

Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach Indigenous curriculum at the high school year leavel

Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to teach project based learning (PBL)

Ability to write, implement and evaluate IEP's

Familiar with implementation of Functional Analysis of Behavior for program planning for moderate behavior students

Ability to support students with a range of different needs and designations

Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs

Experience and demonstrated ability to teach at the grade 10 level

Demonstrated ability and experience with team-teaching

Ability to assess and evaluate using portfolios and presentations of learning (POL)

Demonstrated

ability to work collaboratively on teacher team in the areas of

curriculum, assessment, instruction, planning and professional

development

Demonstrated ability to adapt computer technology to instructional processes and reporting procedures

Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Knowledge and ability to work within a teacher advisory program

Classroom management techniques that maintain an effective learning environment and student dignity

Ability to work with students having social/emotional/learning difficulties

Ability and expertise in working with community organizations

Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaborative and organizational skills

Commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and participation in daily physical activity

Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)

Compensation

$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas

$2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)

Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $63,492 - $108,576

Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
