  • As a Leader, Natural Areas, you will oversee the natural area restoration programs within Public Spaces Delivery, which are responsible for the delivery of restoration projects that shape our landscapes and respond to the biodiversity and climate emergencies

Primary duties include:
Enable the delivery of habitat restoration and wetland restoration projects throughout the city.
Represent Public Spaces Delivery in strategically identifying, prioritizing, guiding, and constructing restoration projects to enhance the Ecological Network.

Work with other levels of government on habitat and wetland restoration issues, including administration of the City's wetland compensation fund.

Work closely across City Business Units to align habitat restoration to corporate objectives, such as responding to the climate emergency, performing riparian restoration projects to support river engineering or incorporating natural infrastructure into mobility projects.

Contribute to corporate natural area restoration strategies and policies.
Manage the human resource functions of all direct reports including recruitment, coaching, mentoring, training, performance management, and assigning work.
Represent the department and the corporation on specific natural areas restoration issues.
Prepare annual work plans, budgets, and section objectives.

Qualifications
***A degree in Natural Sciences (for example: Biology or Ecology) or a related field and at least 8 years of progressively more responsible experience in natural area management and ecological restoration are required.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Accreditation, such as Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP), Professional Biologist (P. Biol.), Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) are desirable.
Previous experience supervising and/or managing teams will be considered an asset.
Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of ecological restoration, project management, and regulatory frameworks.
You have strong communication, management, customer service, and leadership skills.

Success in this position requires demonstrated political acumen, team-building and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities.

You have excellent project management, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
