The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

The Opportunity

Experience genuine teamwork by working with lawyers, the client, and stakeholders to deliver legally sound innovative solutions. We are seeking diverse individuals with strong technical skills to join the legal team at the Alberta Energy Regulator.

For more than 75 years Alberta's oil and gas regulator has adapted to meet innovations in technology, new industry activity and changing social expectations.

Law Branch members are involved in all aspects of regulating energy resource activity from cradle to grave in the province.

The work is varied, stimulating, and rewarding. You will work closely with a diverse technical community on a wide range of matters.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about working on complex files in a collaborative and team-based environment, and keen to deliver results.

Law Branch is committed to providing legal and strategic advice that is timely, practical, and solutions and delivery focused.

What your day-to-day will look like:

Participate in AER hearings and ADR processes.
Represent the AER in litigation and appeal matters in the Court of Appeal of Alberta and other courts and tribunals (e.g., Human Rights Commission, Alberta Ombudsman, Court of Kings Bench, etc.).

What we're looking for in you:

Member in good standing of The Law Society of Alberta
4-7 years of experience providing legal services in at least two of the following areas: administrative/regulatory law, litigation and/or energy/environmental law.
Superior legal research skills.
Strong attention to detail with high importance placed on accuracy and high calibre work products.
Superior writing skills.
Collaborative team player.
Experience working in-house in a public/regulatory body, quasi-judicial board or agency, or government environment is considered an asset.
Experience advising on FOIP and access requests is considered an asset.
Experience working in bankruptcy/insolvency is considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:

Travel within Alberta as required (for hearings, ADR etc.).
