Reporting to the Director, Libraries, Academic Success and Georgian Stores, the Manager, Georgian Stores, is accountable for providing leadership and operational support to ensure the profitable operation of Georgian Stores The incumbent is responsible in ensuring the academic course material needs and non-academic needs of the students, staff, faculty and community are met by providing excellent customer service and cost-effective products.

This includes maintaining an up-to-date inventory, sourcing high-quality materials, collaborating with suppliers to negotiate favorable terms, and continuously assessing and improving the service quality.

The Manager develops short
- and long-term operational direction and planning by working with appropriate college committees, academic areas and external agencies.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides visionary and knowledgeable leadership to both physical store locations and the online enterprise, ensuring effective and efficient support for the staff.
  • Ensures efficient and effective operation through the development, implementation, required updates, maintenance and troubleshooting of operational systems, policies and procedures for all store locations and ecommerce site.
  • Experienced in overseeing point of sale systems and managing vendor relationships to ensure seamless retail operations.
  • Develops and manages the Georgian Stores annual operating budget and strategic priorities in conjunction with the Director.
  • Regularly communicate store performance, progress to Director, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and prompt resolution of challenges.
  • Ensures sufficient inventory is maintained to meet customer needs and a high level of service is maintained by providing timely professional service to the College and its customers.
  • Recruits, selects, develops, assigns and evaluates all staff at all GC campuses, including part time staff and student employees.
  • Defines roles and responsibilities; facilitates goal setting; plans for and provides required training and development opportunities; facilitates resolution of employee relation issues; and encourages and supports a team approach in a complex customer service environment.
  • Provides support to all campus locations both on site and virtually using relevant technologies.
  • Provides operational support to the staff regarding solutions to challenges, guidance and direction.
  • Determines the appropriate selling price and gross margin on products and return policies to ensure revenue projections are achieved.
  • Identifies, implements and reviews all staff financial recording procedures in all revenue generating areas of Georgian Stores, including data entry on systems, cash registers, online web order processing and accounting procedures.
  • Approves purchases and expenditures for resale, operational equipment, and supplies.
  • Negotiation of large contracts with suppliers to secure store products as the Store is the official college retail outlet for the sale of all student related materials, holding exclusive rights to sell on campus.
  • Develops short and longrange plans for the College retail and online operations relating to space, technology and staffing requirements to ensure continuity of service and financial success of the operation.
  • Develops appropriate marketing and advertising strategies to sustain longterm operations and business growth.
  • Provides physical support to all functional areas on an "as needed" emergency basis (shipping/receiving, purchasing, sales, customer service, online processing and accounting).
  • Travel required to Georgian campuses and store locations

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Successfully completed a 3year Diploma or Degree program in Retail, Marketing, Accounting or Administration or a related field of study.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a Customer Service environment, preferably retail with a focus on purchasing/buying and logistics.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a manager in a unionized retail environment.
  • Experience with Accounting and exposure to Sales Taxes legislation is required.
  • Excellent Customer Services Skills are required with demonstrated human relation/communication skills both verbal and written
  • Effective problem solving, conflict resolution skills
  • Effective negotiation skills with suppliers, customers and staff
  • Intermediate level computer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and P.O.S. systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
