WAGE:
$15.50/hour (minimum 30 hours up to 37.5 hours/week)


This position is created specifically for applicants to the 2023 Canada Summer Jobs program, and all applicants must meet eligibility guidelines as specified by Service Canada in order to be considered for the above position.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Resident Assistant will work under the direction of the Chaplain.

The Resident Assistant is responsible for assisting the Spiritual Life staff in tasks that require both hands-on and no hands-on care of our residents.


Duties include but are not limited to:

Assisting the Lead Pastor and the Spiritual Life Team in fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of Pastoral Leadership that further Shepherd Village's Vision, Mission, and Values and strengthen its community of Christian believers.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Provide oneonone spiritual engagement with the residents such as prayers, devotionals, scripture reading, and hymn sing.
  • Assist in providing spiritual care/pastoral care to the residents.
  • Assist in coordinating virtual pastoral/spiritual visits
  • Assist in offering worship opportunities
  • Assist in delivering in spiritual palliative care/last rites
  • Assist with providing grief support
  • Assist with floor devotionals and Spiritual Life programs
  • Keep record of the visitations/activities and communicate them with Spiritual Life Department as needed
  • Conducting Spiritual Care Rounds on the floor
  • Respond to requests for spiritual care/visit
  • Practice the ministry of presence
  • Communicate and alert residents' needs to the appropriate staff
  • Lead group prayers with residents and staff on the floor if needed
  • Lead oneonone ministry of prayer with the residents/families/staff members as needed
  • Show Christ's love in actions and words
  • Belong and adhere to Evangelical Faith Tenants
  • Practice respect to residents' faith beliefs/traditions/practices
  • Participate in team meetings/staff meetings as needed
  • Collaborates with residents, Families and Team Members to maintain a positive, supportive and safe environment for all.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities and advocates for the Resident/ Family's individual needs and preferences.
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned.
  • Ability to communicate positively with other Staff, Residents and Families.
  • Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents.
  • Skills and ability to complete assignments in a timely fashion.
  • No handson personal care is permitted.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to a client centered approach to worship
  • Preference will be given to those who have experience working in Healthcare environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to assist Seniors with excellent customer service

Program Eligibility_**
What youth participants are eligible?

To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age
at the beginning of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act _for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

  • The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.


Duration and hours of work
Jobs must be full-time (30 to a maximum of 40 hours per week). If a youth is provided less than 30 hours of work for any week, their wages may be deemed ineligible for reimbursement unless consent has been granted from Service Canada for exceptional circumstances (e.g. to accommodate persons with disabilities).
