Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years.

KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:


  • One residential program for adolescents in care;
  • Three residential programs for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
  • A Day Treatment school program for youth struggling in the typical school setting;
  • Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
  • Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 413 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
  • Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 1624 experiencing homelessness.

***Kennedy House is looking for a results oriented Human Resources Generalist to join our team. This is a full-time permanent position located at our Head Office in Scarborough.


Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, The Human Resources Generalist is accountable for the daily Human Resources functions and provides guidance and best practices to all level employees on HR matters, including but not limited to: employee relations, labour relations, policy development, regulatory compliance, health and safety, employee engagement, performance management, WSIB and leaves management.

The Human Resources Generalist will help drive key HR initiatives to ensure they are aligned with the Agency's strategic goals and values.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in and support the recruitment, onboarding, and orientation process
  • Provide information and respond to questions related to employee and labour relations in accordance with the Collective Agreement and Kennedy House policy.
  • Draft and issue HR communications to staff and the union
  • Handle employee requests for information with the highest level of confidentiality and customer service
  • Review and update HR employee data in HRIS, ensuring accuracy; participate in all data integrity initiatives
  • Support H & S initiatives
  • Ensure employee files are in compliance with all policies, procedures, regulations, and mandates.
  • Initiate, plan and implement various department special projects.
  • Provide support, feedback, research, data management, reporting, etc. as required
  • Resolve basic payroll, compensation, benefits/pension, absence management, and performance management concerns
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:


  • College or University Degree in Human Resources Management
  • CHRL certified with active membership in HRPA preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years of direct work experience in a Human Resources Generalist capacity preferably for a nonprofit youth organization
  • Experience in labour relations is a requirement
  • Experience in health & safety, including WSIB reporting, is an asset
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of current legislations, collective agreements where applicable and best HR practices
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, interpret and administer HR policies involving a variety of situations
  • Proven ability to provide effective recommendations to solve HR related issues related to regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with labour and employee relation issues with the demonstrated ability to foster positive, working relationships between management and union.
  • Experience in Recruitment and Onboarding, Health & Safety, Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Job Evaluation, data management, HR reporting, performance management, compensation and benefits, absence management, return to work (RTW), and training.
  • Valid Class G Driver's License
  • Clear Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Search must be maintained
  • Ability to prepare and deliver facetoface presentations
  • Superior time management skills and consistently able to meet deadlines
  • Multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with mínimal supervision
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
  • Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential
  • Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written (including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation) and verbal communication skills with a strong customer service orientation
  • Broad awareness of other cultures, values, identities and perspectives with a demonstrated ability and interest in workin
