    Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Senior Miner, Lead Hand with a competitive hourly wage of $62.24 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 10%.

    Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

    As a Senior Miner / Lead hand, your primary responsibility is to support the mine operations team to execute various tasks of the mine plan at the Brucejack Mine. You will be a safety leader and demonstrate the ability to ensure safety is at the forefront when planning and executing tasks. You will work closely with the Mine Supervisor and assist in the daily shift planning and task allocations within the crew.

    The successful candidate will preform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

    • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community, and environmental protection in keeping with Newcrest's goals and objectives.
    • Demonstrate commitment to adhere to all Mine site safety rules, procedures, and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others.
    • Maintain a safe work environment through effective work area inspections, hazard identification and following safe work procedures for each task.
    • Identify and remediate workplace hazards including housekeeping, ground support assessment, scaling and ensure all critical controls for the task are in place and effective.
    • Safely operate underground mobile equipment such as, but not limited to, personnel carrier, telehandler, boom truck, scissor decks, skid steers, shotcrete equipment, scooptrams, haulage trucks, production and development drills.
    • Mentor new miners to the workforce, and act as a leader to assist with the progression of our underground team.
    • Observe experienced workers to gain and increase knowledge of methods, procedures, and performance standards and be willing to share their skills and knowledge with co-workers.
    • Develop skill set to progress within the mine operations team by becoming proficient in training provided to perform underground mining duties as per the company's miner training program.
    • Perform basic maintenance on operating equipment including pre-start checks, refueling, lube fill and washing down.
    • Assist in installation, modification, and repairs of UG infrastructures.
    • Perform duties required to ensure safety and to support the mining advance such as scaling, ground support, extending services (installing air, ventilation, sump pumps and service lines).
    • Document reports detailing work performed, problems diagnosed, pre checks on all equipment and machinery used in the day and all other required shift paperwork.
    • Immediately report problems/failures that may impact the team, or the company, to your Shift Supervisor.
    • Maintain and demonstrate a professional and courteous relationship with employees, subcontractors and all other personnel.
    • Practice good general housekeeping in the work area and equipment.
    • Perform related duties and activities as directed by the Underground Supervisor or designate.

    About You:

    Position requirements include, but are not limited to:

    • Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others
    • Knowledgeable in underground hard rock mining practices and applicable regulations.
    • Minimum of 5 years experience operating heavy equipment within an underground mine setting required. Drilling and construction experience preferred.
    • Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability
    • Previous experience working in trades and construction is an asset
    • BC Mines Supervisor/Shift Boss certification would be an asset.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid Class 5 driver's license

    Additional Information

    • Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on/14 days off rotation
    • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
    • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
    • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
    • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
    • Able to work in close quarters with a team.
