The youth clinic volunteer will have some education, knowledge, and experience in adolescent development, mental health, and medical needs, as well as an understanding of youth issues and the systems within which they operate.

The clinic volunteer is responsible for supporting the youth clinic operated in partnership with Fraser Health at our New Westminster location and includes assisting all visitors, administrators, nurses, and doctors on site.

This position is ideal for applicants looking to gain more experience in the youth/family or health field.


Youth clinic provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere where free, confidential information and education regarding sexuality and health to youth 21 and under is provided.

Our youth clinic, located at 38 Begbie Street, New Westminster, has nurses and doctors on-site to provide the following services:


  • Access to free medical care
  • Birth care education and provision
  • Pregnancy testing and decision making education
  • STI information, testing, and treatment
  • HIV examination and education


The volunteer will support clients with advocacy and referral to services within the community such as shelters, income assistance, legal services, family mediation, and school.

Youth can also access a wide array of services through the clinic including:


  • Drug and alcohol counseling
  • Child and Youth Mental Health clinicians
  • Access to emergency food cupboard
  • Participation in recreational activities

  • Supporting clinic administrators, nurses, and doctors.
  • Screening and engaging all clients attending the clinic.
  • Advocating and referring youth to resources in the community when applicable.
  • Documenting incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A certificate/diploma or are working at completing one in a social sciences or healthrelated field.
  • Some experience in the field of youth and family services.
  • Knowledge of working with mental health and complex developmental conditions.
  • Knowledge of the legislation and policies that govern service delivery in the social service sector.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of collaborative practice and the ability to work effectively with a variety of professionals.
  • Exceptional report writing skills.
  • First Aid certification would be an asset.
  • Must be available Mondays and Tuesdays from 2 pm 6 pm (excluding holidays).
