Reporting to the
Site Project Manager
and the Head Office Manager, Health & Safety
, the Health & Safety Coordinator **will support the delivery of the company's Safety Program and the achievement of a safe and accident free workplace.

As a member of the safety team, you will proactively administer company and site specific safe work requirements for works on the site specific contract and will assist the Safety Department in the development of safety instructional materials.


Responsibilities:


  • Participate in the development and update of Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Procedures;
  • Confirm all prework requirements of the company's Safety Program are satisfied before work commences;
  • Assist the Safety Dept. with the development of safety related instruction and materials;
  • Meet and review the requirements of the Safety Program with company and subcontractor supervisors and workers;
  • Assist the Safety Department in the collection and review of subcontractor submissions (JHAs, SWPs, worker training records, enter data into ecompliance etc.);
  • Conduct new worker safety orientation; verify prework safety training requirements;
  • Coordinate training requirements, as necessary for job specific needs; provide instruction to foreman and supervisors on Safety Program requirements as needed;
  • Observe day to day activities on the jobsite for compliance with safe work requirements; promptly communicate with supervisors as necessary to address potential concerns;
  • Conduct weekly Site Inspections by use of ecompliance (SI); oversee performance of weekly site inspections by supervisors; review SI reports and promptly initiate follow up action as required;
  • Coordinate and/or deliver weekly Tool Box Talks for workers; collect and review records; Promptly report, record and investigates accidents and nearmiss events;
  • Co-Chair the company's Joint Health and Safety Committee; lead/participate in monthly meetings, prepare minutes; promptly follow up on issues through to resolution;
  • Collect, maintain, upload safety program records, as specified;
  • Assist with the implementation of Return to Work plans;
  • Participate in weekly safety review calls with the Head Office Safety Coordinator and others;
  • Prepare weekly / monthly reports on site safety performance, and participate in audits of site activity;
  • Work closely with Project Manager and site team to assess safety requirements for upcoming work hazards

Requirements:


  • Knowledge of OH&S Act and Regulation 213/9
  • Knowledge of safety risks of highway/bridge construction
  • Sound knowledge of methodology, and proficiency in the development of Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Procedures development
  • Ability to travel within Ontario
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • An outgoing, enthusiastic team player
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with all personnel
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills programs, ecompliance, excel etc.
  • Minimum 5 years in construction industry environment
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma
  • Workings towards an NCSO Certificate or newly certified
  • Safety certification/experience with the following a definite asset:
  • Working at Heights
  • Hoisting and Rigging
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Excavation and Trenching
  • Traffic Management Plans and Book 7 requirements
  • Emergency Rescue Plans for working around water
  • Emergency Rescue Plans for high reach rescue work
  • Surface Miner Common Core Safety Program requirements
  • Construction Health & Safety Representative, Parts 1, 2 & 3 (IHSA)
  • Basics of Supervision (IHSA), or equivalent
