    About the Role

    In this role, you will spearhead, supervise, and actively contribute to projects undertaken by the Systems Engineering (SE) team. You will offer practical day-to-day counsel and guidance, establish team strategies encompassing objectives, metrics, priorities, and best practices. Furthermore, you will empower the team to excel while leveraging your technical expertise to directly impact the technical framework and operations of our projects.

    The Systems Engineering team collaborates closely with our Project Management Team within the professional services entity to deliver significant value to end users, channel partners, subcontractors, and OTTO Motors. SE team members design and implement fleets of OTTO vehicles and software at customer locations, playing a pivotal role in shaping product requirements and influencing the product roadmap.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Contributing to and reviewing/approving systems architecture, design, and project operations
    • Ensuring top-notch service quality and deliverables from the SE team
    • Attainment of SE department objectives
    • Enhancing overall SE service quality and performance
    • Coaching and nurturing SE team members
    • Planning work, balancing workloads, and capacity planning
    • Conducting design reviews and safety risk assessments

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Collaborating with sales and applications engineering during pre-order phases for effective post-order activities
    • Supporting and substituting for the SE Team through various activities such as developing solution evaluation matrices, overseeing vendor interactions, risk assessments, and prioritization decisions
    • Reviewing SOWs and designs to enhance quality, analyzing test/experiment outcomes for deeper insights
    • Engaging with product management to define market and product technical requirements
    • Managing relationships with technology partners and subcontractors
    • Infusing inventive solutions into execution plans by leveraging partners and subcontractors
    • Reviewing and contributing to technical aspects of contract development
    • Occasional travel to customer sites to lead and facilitate project deployment and integration (~20% - 30% travel commitment)

    • Excellent communicator for SE written communications, customer interactions, performance reporting, and investment pitches

    • Technically apt in contributing ideas to implementation strategies and product feature requirements
    • Proficient in system design and integration skills
    • Ability to identify talent and areas for improvement

    Required Background:

    • 7+ years of experience in a direct contributor or technical leadership role in industrial automation design/integration
    • Prior experience in a technical leadership role is advantageous
    • Proven ability to swiftly comprehend new technical and business challenges related to manufacturing
    • Experienced in customer-facing communication

    • Familiarity with industrial engineering design principles
      • Proficiency in facility layout optimization for efficient material flow
      • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to streamline operations and minimize waste
      • Awareness of human factors such as ergonomics and usability

    • Focus on efficiency to enhance client experience and operational productivity within the SE team
