Job Description:


The Vice-President, Chief Data Officer is responsible for developing and governing our enterprise data and information strategy in order to drive business decisions and growth.

This leader will develop data procedures and policies, and work closely with various departments to collect, prepare, organize, protect, and analyze data assets while ensuring that the company meets industry best practices and regulatory requirements.


By leading inter-disciplinary teams, improving and streamlining data systems within the company, and driving innovation, the VP will provide a vision and strategy for all data management activities and is a champion for global data management, governance, quality, and vendor relationships across the enterprise.

This leader will also oversee the enterprise information management (EIM) program, data stewards, and data service providers, and effectively communicate the status, value, and importance of data collection and management to board, executive members and staff.

What You'll be Doing


Policies and Standards- Establish data policies, standards, organization, governance and enforcement of EIM concepts.- Oversee and report on data metrics, and has executive-level responsibility for all enterprise information/data management budgeting and initiatives, including a uniform and repeatable system development lifecycle methodology.- Implementing data privacy policies and complying with data protection regulations.


Data Governance- Organize and implement policies, procedures, structures, roles, and responsibilities that outline and enforce rules of engagement, decision rights, and the accountabilities for the effective management of information assets.- Document how the business is run - including policies and procedures and gathering information to deal with day-to-day problems and more.- Provide leadership and oversight of enterprise data governance and management by ensuring policies and procedures are in place, maintained, operationalized and adhered to in alignment with CIBC standards, policies and procedures.


Maximize Data Quality- Determine CIBC's current data quality and maturity levels to maximize data quality, including the uncertainty of data, awakening of data, and enlightenment of data.- Proactively working on preventing future data defects and creating an optimization cycle with continuous monitoring and improving the data defect-prevention process.- Manage costs and increase revenue based on insights derived from data and furthering the data as an asset strategy across the enterprise.

Data Strategies and Systems- Oversee the collection, storage, management, quality, and protection of data. Explore Data Warehousing and create Master Data Management (MDM) by leveraging a range of tools to implement how data is captured, integrated, and shared.


Enterprise Data Modeling- Discover and resolve data discrepancies among different views and implementations of the same data.- Capture the right types of metadata and take inventory of unstructured data including determining its format, security, ownership, and quality.


Maintain Security and Privacy- Determine and enforce specific security and privacy requirements for each piece of data, as it relates to privacy laws, industry regulations, and corporate compliance mandates.
