The Business and Fiscal Planning Branch within the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) is seeking an inclusive leader to join their team as the Corporate Controller.

What can I expect to do in this role?: As the


Corporate Controller, you will:

- establish the ministry financial controllership and accountability framework.
- manage and lead corporate accounting, financial analysis, revenue and transfer payments, audit and risk management, financial reporting operations, and corporate advisory services.
- manage the coordination of internal and external financial reporting.
- provide expert advice to ministry staff on government accounting policies and financial control in the delivery of the ministry's financial objectives.
- provide ministry-wide direction, leadership, and quality assurance in the implementation and management of financial controllership and reporting mechanisms that align with the government's financial and accounting policies and standards.
- lead and manage a team through coaching, promoting innovation and building diversity within the team.
- develop, build, and maintain strategic alliances across the ministry and the Ontario Public Service.


How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:
Completed Accounting designation (Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Canadian Public Finance Accreditation (CPFA)).

  • You demonstrate the

  • You have experience in successfully leading priority initiatives that support the achievement of organizational goals.
  • You have excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills along with a strong sense of political acuity to deal with a variety of complex and contentious issues.

Relationship Management and Communication Skills:


  • You have relationship management skills to develop and maintain collaborative relationships across multiple partners and organizations.
  • You can demonstrate negotiation skills and effectively foster and maintain productive collaboration and build partnerships with a diverse client group and stakeholders.
  • You have demonstrated communication skills, including presentation and briefing skills to manage and inform senior management and staff on complex issues.
  • You have experience identifying and clearly communicating strategic options to proactively support client and ministry objectives.
  • You have excellent judgement and political acuity to deal with highly visible, complex and politically sensitive issues.

Technical Expertise and Specialized Knowledge:


  • You have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), consolidation theory and practice, financial and accounting theories/practices, and practices to coordinate, review and manage complex financial processes.
  • You have knowledge of Public Sector accounting (including Public Sector Accounting Board Standards), consolidation theory/practice, financial and accounting theories/practices.
  • You have knowledge of government financial reporting processes and requirements, including capital accounting knowledge.
  • You have knowledge of financial policy/procedures and systems design/development principles and methods.
  • You can provide analysis, solutions and recommendations to manage risk, optimize financial management and maximize compliance.
